Job summary

Mercor is seeking an Audiobook QA Expert for European Portuguese to work remotely from Portugal, about 20 hours per week on a part-time contractor basis.

You will evaluate AI-narrated audiobooks for naturalness and accuracy, logging pronunciation errors and marking timestamps with our review tooling. English reportability is required, with prior annotation or transcription experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Audiobook QA Expert - European Portuguese | $15-20/hr | Remote (Portugal Preferred)

Join a growing team helping shape the future of AI-narrated audiobooks. We're looking for native European Portuguese speakers who are passionate about audiobooks and have a sharp, analytical ear to evaluate and improve AI text-to-speech narration. This is a part-time, remote role at approximately 20 hours per week.

What You'll Do

• Listen to AI-narrated audiobooks in European Portuguese and assess naturalness, accuracy, and overall listening quality.
• Identify and log speech errors - including mispronunciations, skipped or added words, incorrect number readings, wrongly expanded abbreviations, unnatural phrasing, and audio artifacts.
• Categorize each issue and mark the exact timestamp or span using our internal review tooling.
• Provide overall listener satisfaction feedback, noting where narration feels natural and where it disrupts the experience.
• Maintain consistent attention to detail across extended listening sessions.

Who We're Looking For

• Native or near-native fluency in European Portuguese with a genuine habit of listening to audiobooks.
• Working proficiency in English sufficient for reporting and team communication.
• Prior experience in annotation, labeling, transcription, proofreading, or other detail-oriented review work.
• Patient, disciplined, and capable of sustaining accuracy over long listening sessions.
• Reliable availability of approximately 20 hours per week.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI training data, model evaluation, or audio/QA annotation projects.
• Background in linguistics, editing, voice acting, or audio production.

This is a remote, part-time contractor role. Candidates based in regions where European Portuguese is natively spoken are strongly preferred.
