Job summary

PwC Portugal is hiring a Manager for Alternative Valuation Services in Matosinhos. You will lead valuation and modelling engagements supporting audit and assurance, manage a team of valuation experts, and ensure high-quality analyses for clients in private equity, real estate, and related sectors.

You will review methodologies, challenge assumptions, and present findings to clients while mentoring junior staff and contributing to business development initiatives within PwC's broader valuation

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial, client-facing valuation and modelling experience.
• Direct experience in delivering and managing valuation and modelling engagements.
• Hands-on financial modelling skills.
• Strong analytical abilities and lateral thinking.
• Exceptional attention to detail while maintaining broader context.
• Ability to work effectively in teams, sometimes under tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and client interaction confidence.
• CFA qualification would be advantageous.

Alternative Valuation Services - Manager

PwC Services Portugal (PSP) is a joint venture between PwC Luxembourg and PwC Portugal, serving as an integral extension of PwC Luxembourg. Our growing team operates as an acceleration center supporting PwC Luxembourg's clients. Leveraging a unique pool of talented professionals based in Matosinhos, our operating model ensures scalability, consistency, and quality in service delivery by integrating seamlessly into PwC Luxembourg's operations and addressing talent attraction challenges sustainably.

PSP provides a range of services, including Assurance Audit (spanning all industries, with a particular focus on Real Estate and Private Equity), Broader Assurance Services, Tax (including Managed Services, Corporate Tax, VAT, and Accounting), and Advisory (specializing in the Global Fund Industry and Real Estate Valuation).

Our Valuation Services Team, within the Assurance department, provides specialized valuation services for audit-related engagements. We support clients in navigating the complexities of valuation across private equity, private debt, infrastructure, venture capital, and intangible assets. Our focus is on delivering high-quality valuations that meet rigorous regulatory and reporting standards, thereby enhancing the integrity and reliability of financial statements. We are currently seeking a Manager to join our team and enhance our capabilities in these specialized areas. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring our clients make well-informed decisions, underpinned by robust valuation insights within the context of our audit-related, managed services and other valuation engagements. This opportunity is based in our Matosinhos office.

Your mission:

• Assist partners and directors in executing valuation and modelling engagements primarily supporting audit and assurance engagements, including the assessment of fair value for financial reporting purposes;
• Manage a team of valuation experts, projects, and client engagements, ensuring the delivery of high quality valuation analyses and reviews in support of audit and assurance engagements;
• Review and challenge valuation methodologies, key assumptions and financial models, and provide technical guidance on complex valuation matters;
• Have opportunities to lead portfolio valuation, managed services and advisory engagements across the Alternatives industry;
• Provide support to junior team members (senior associates/associates), guiding and reviewing their work to maintain high standards;
• Present valuation and modeling findings both internally and externally to clients, effectively communicating complex issues;
• Build and maintain a strong network within PwC and externally with clients and industry professionals. Support partners and directors in business development initiatives, both externally and internally;
• Coach junior staff, helping them develop technical valuation skills, financial modelling expertise, industry knowledge, and soft skills;
• Participate in various internal initiatives, such as digitalization, industry specialization, and value creation, to assist partners and directors in delivering these projects.

• A minimum of 5 years of commercial, client-facing valuation and modelling experience, ideally gained in one of the Big Four, a bank, private equity, a boutique firm, or another relevant organization;
• Direct experience in delivering and managing valuation and modelling engagements, which is essential for this role;
• Hands-on financial modelling skills;
• Strong analytical abilities, coupled with lateral thinking;
• Exceptional attention to detail while maintaining a clear view of the broader context;
• The ability to work effectively in teams, sometimes under tight deadlines;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in client interactions;
• A CFA qualification, which would be advantageous.
