Job summary

Sofico, a Belgian software product company, is hiring in Porto for AI‑native Software Engineer focused on Java backend and microservices. You’ll work in an end‑to‑end delivery team, collaborating with Product and Architecture, and using AI agents daily to design, build, test and review code.

Hybrid work and international exposure are offered. You’ll contribute to the enterprise Miles platform with domain models, APIs and service boundaries, while maintaining code quality and delivery across the

Qualifications

• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and modern backend development.
• Experience with Domain-Driven Design, turning business concepts into software models.
• Experience building REST APIs with consumers in mind.
• Experience with microservices, SQL and relational databases.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants or engineering agents, or willingness to adopt.
• Product mindset: understand problems, challenge assumptions and own delivery.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to other international offices.

Responsibilities

• Design and build Java backend services and microservices for complex domains.
• Use Domain-Driven Design to define service boundaries and interactions.
• Evolve APIs with versioning and documentation for internal/external consumers.
• Collaborate with AI agents throughout design, implementation and testing.
• Review agent output and ensure quality of code merged.
• Investigate production issues and improve reliability.
• Participate in code reviews and engineering decisions.
• Help the team optimize agentic workflows and share learnings.
