Job summary

Adtran, Inc. in Gdynia seeks a curious, motivated Student (Bootloader Software Engineering) to work on embedded software for telecom systems. You will partner with experienced Bootloader Engineers, learning how devices boot and initialize on real hardware prototypes.

The role is learning-focused with mentorship, flexible hours around study schedules, and exposure to real hardware used in customer shipments. English technical communication is expected.

Qualifications

  • 3rd-year student of Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Automation and Robotics, or a related field.
  • Good knowledge of C programming and Linux basics.
  • Familiarity with development tools and version control.

Responsibilities

  • Bootloader development support: assist bootloader engineers with development, testing and debugging for telecom systems.
  • Implement smaller features and fixes in C under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Lab work and bring-up with hardware prototypes, flash images, logs collection and issue reproduction.
  • Write and run unit and integration tests; support NPI product testing.
  • Prepare and update technical documentation.

This is a learning role: you start with well-defined tasks under close mentorship, take on more responsibility as you grow, and build up your embedded and low-level software expertise.What You Will DoBootloader development support: Help the bootloader engineers develop, test and debug bootloader software for our telecom systems.Coding: Implement smaller features and bug fixes in C under the guidance of principal engineers.Lab work and bring-up: Work with hardware prototypes: flash images, support board bring-up, collect logs and reproduce issues.Testing: Help write and run unit and integration tests.NPI support: Support the product's function test for New Product Introduction (NPI).Documentation: Help prepare and update technical documentation.What We ExpectEducation: 3rd-year student of Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Automation and Robotics, or a related field.Availability: At least 20 hours per week in our Gdynia officeC programming: Good knowledge of C. with the LinuLinux basics: Basic experience x command line and bash.Development tools: Familiarity with gcc and git, from university or your own projects.Embedded mindset: Interest in embedded systems and low-level software.English: Good enough to read technical documentation and talk with colleagues in English.Nice to HaveEmbedded experience: Experience with microcontrollers or embedded boards.Computer architecture: Basic understanding of the boot process, memory and peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C).Lab skills: Experience with measuring instruments (multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer).Hardware basics: Basic hardware understanding and the ability to read schematics.Scripting and build tools: Basic understanding of Python and GNU Make.What We OfferLong-term paid internship - 6,000 PLN per month for a full-time position.Mentoring: Guidance from experienced embedded and bootloader engineers, built around real product work.Hours that fit your studies: Flexible working hours planned around your class schedule and exam sessions.Real embedded experience: Hands-on work with real hardware and products that ship to customers.International environment: Work in a multicultural team with colleagues in Germany and the USA.Learning: English lessons during working hours and access to our internal training program.Multisport Card and sport sections (running, basketball, volleyball, cycling and more).Friendly culture: A team-oriented, friendly work culture.Great office: A modern office in Gdynia (gym and playroom) close to the SKM/PKM stations.
