Job summary

Adtran, Inc. in Gdynia is seeking a Student (Hardware Engineering) to learn and contribute to hardware controller modules for telecom systems. You will work side by side with our Hardware Engineer on design, bring-up, testing and documentation.

This learning role offers mentorship, flexible hours around classes, hands-on lab work, and exposure to production processes, with opportunities to progress as you grow.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing 3rd-year studies in electronics or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of analog and digital circuits.
  • Familiar with schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience with lab equipment and soldering.
  • Ability to read datasheets in English.

Responsibilities

  • Hardware design support: assist with schematic capture, design reviews, and PCB layout guidance.
  • Lab work and bring-up: participate in board bring-up and debugging with test equipment.
  • Testing: write and run hardware/integration tests and report issues.
  • Component research: review datasheets and assess availability/lifecycle.
  • Documentation: contribute to hardware design specs and test reports.
  • Production support: learn PCB release processes and assist production test procedures.
  • Teamwork: collaborate with Systems Engineering, FPGA, Mechanics, Software and Operations.

This is a learning role: you start with well-defined tasks under close mentorship, take on more responsibility as you grow, and build up your Hardware Engineering expertise.What You Will DoHardware design support: Help the Hardware Engineer with schematic capture, design reviews, and preparing PCB layout guidance for controller modules.Lab work and bring-up: Take part in board bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters and power supplies.Testing: Help write and run hardware and integration test cases, record results, and report issues you find.Component research: Look up datasheets, compare alternative components, and check availability and lifecycle status as input to component selection.Documentation: Contribute to Hardware Design Specifications, test reports, and production test documentation.Production support: Learn how PCB assemblies are released to production and help the Operations team with production test procedures.Teamwork: Join team meetings and see how Hardware works with Systems Engineering, FPGA, Mechanics, Software and Operations across our global sites.What We ExpectEducation: 3rd-year student of Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Automation and Robotics, or a related field.Availability: At least 20 hours per week in our Gdynia office (lab work happens on site).Electronics fundamentals: Good understanding of analog and digital circuits: passive components, transistors, power supplies, logic, and common buses (I2C, SPI, UART).Microcontroller / processor basics: Basic knowledge of how a microcontroller or microprocessor system works, including its memory (RAM, Flash) and peripheral interfaces.Schematic and PCB tools: Hands-on experience from coursework or projects with an EDA tool (e.g., KiCad, Altium, OrCAD or Eagle). You can read and draw a schematic.Lab skills: Comfortable using basic lab equipment and soldering.Problem-solving: Curious and methodical when debugging; you dig into why something doesn't work.English: Good enough to read datasheets and talk with colleagues in English (B2 or higher).Teamwork: Willing to learn, ask questions, and accept feedback in a team.Nice to HaveYour own hardware projects: A board you designed and built, a student science club (koło naukowe), or a contest team.
