Job summary

Jobtailor in Warsaw, Poland is seeking an experienced VoIP/SMS operations engineer to coordinate engineering tasks, guide junior team members, and own escalation decisions in partner-facing communications.

You will operate and maintain large-scale cloud-based VoIP and messaging platforms, onboard carrier partners by configuring trunks and routing, and analyze call quality as well as SMS delivery and routing issues. Fluent English and cross-functional collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

3+ years of hands-on experience in VoIP/SMS operations or telecom engineering.
Knowledge of SIP, SMPP/HTTP messaging, and voice routing using Class 4/5 switches.
Experience with Wireshark, tcpdump, and SIP trace analysis.
Understanding of TCP/IP and networking fundamentals, including switches, firewalls, routers, LAN/WAN/VPN.
Experience with carrier interconnections, trunk setup, capacity management, and partner onboarding.
Familiarity with voice/SMS billing and rating systems.
Ability to work in a ticket-driven support environment with SLA awareness.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills.
Experience with OpenSIPS, FreeSWITCH, MVTS, Oracle SBC, or similar VoIP platforms.
Proficiency in Python, Bash, or Lua.
Experience with AWS or other cloud environments.
Linux system administration experience.
Familiarity with WebRTC.
Experience with Zendesk or JIRA.
Background in telecom fraud detection or traffic analysis.
Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers.
Working knowledge of REST APIs and integration workflows.

Responsibilities

Coordinate engineering tasks, guide junior team members, and own escalation decisions.
Operate and maintain large-scale VoIP and SMS platforms in a cloud environment.
Provide Level II and Level III technical support for voice and messaging services.
Onboard new carrier partners by configuring trunks, accounts, and routing.
Investigate and resolve call quality, SMS delivery, routing, and protocol issues.
Drive infrastructure projects including platform upgrades and process automation.
Monitor, test, and evaluate network systems and recommend improvements.
Collaborate with Commercial, Routing, and Back-End teams on platform changes.
Improve and automate operational workflows.
Participate in anti-fraud and anti-spam efforts through traffic pattern analysis.
