Senior Observability Engineer: Telemetry & OpenTelemetry

Job summary

Box Poland is seeking an experienced Observability Engineer to design and scale our telemetry platform across globally distributed services. You will implement OpenTelemetry-based instrumentation, partner with service teams on logs, metrics, traces, and SLOs, and help optimize telemetry cost and signal quality.

You will work with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm, contributing to a secure, scalable observability stack in a mature engineering culture that values ownership

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience with one of higher-level languages (Go, Rust, Python, Java, Scala, Javascript, Ruby, or PHP).
• Experience with infrastructure/configuration languages Terraform/HCL, Helm/YAML.
• Experience with service observability best practices and tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus) or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies like GCP, AWS, and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the telemetry platform and instrumentation standards for Box’s globally distributed services.
• Collaborate with service teams to implement observability across logs, metrics, traces, alerts, and SLOs.
• Make tradeoffs around telemetry cardinality, sampling, retention, and cost for scalable observability.
• Promote OpenTelemetry-based instrumentation practices and distributed tracing.
