Job summary

SpotOn is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Express POS Checkout & Payments Experience team in Kraków. You will guide a six to seven engineer team, shape architecture, and partner with Product, Design, and Financial Services to deliver fast, reliable checkout.

You will own end-to-end checkout flows, from card and cash payments to refunds, receipts, and offline paths, and drive metrics, incident response, and production quality while mentoring engineers across time zones.

Qualifications

• 2+ years directly managing software engineers with coaching/mentoring experience.
• Strong background as a senior or staff engineer before moving into management.
• Deep experience with native Android architecture (Kotlin) and legacy Java codebases.

Responsibilities

• Bridge Time Zones: foster an inclusive, high‑performing team culture across distributed time zones.
• Own Execution: own engineering execution for all checkout flows, including card and cash payments, split payments, tipping, discounts, gift cards, refunds, voids, receipts, offline flows, and related data.
• Partner Cross‑Functionally: collaborate with Product and Design to deliver customer‑centered checkout experiences.
• Collaborate on SDKs: work with Financial Services to integrate with SpotOn’s Payments SDK to ensure fast, reliable checkout.
• Drive Architecture: guide decisions toward an event‑driven architecture using Kafka.
• Optimize Metrics: drive improvements in end‑to‑end checkout time, success rate, crash‑free sessions, payment accuracy.
• Build Engineering Discipline: establish rigorous testing, observability, incident readiness, and production support.
• Incident Response: participate in incident commander rotation and support checkout/payment incidents.
• Manage Risk: communicate status and plans clearly to stakeholders.
• Develop Talent: coach engineers and provide career development.
