Job summary

Sphera is hiring a Director of Engineering to build a durable engineering organization for the AI era. This senior leadership role owns reliability, cost controls, and how the team experiments with AI-assisted development, while growing the team and shipping high-quality software.

You will lead organizational change, maintain momentum, and partner with Product and Platform to align architecture with business goals. Strong SaaS leadership is required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience, with leadership of large engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience running iterative, evidence-based AI trials and establishing disciplined AI practices.
• Proven ability to manage complex cross-team programs with interdependent workstreams.
• Knowledge of site reliability practices and FinOps principles in a SaaS environment.
• Experience guiding organizational change and vendor/contractor transitions with minimal disruption.
• Strong grounding in agile delivery and core software engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Own AI adoption strategy and develop durable practices with clear context for AI systems.
• Build, grow, and retain a high-performing engineering team with redundancy.
• Manage cross-team program delivery and surface schedule risks early.
• Define reliability standards, on-call processes, and postmortems within the team.
• Balance cloud and vendor costs; collaborate with Finance on budgeting.
