Job summary

Infolet in Poland is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives, manage database environments, and support cloud migrations. You will own upgrades, patching, and performance tuning across Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server.

The role requires scripting and automation expertise, strong IT operations discipline, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly. On-call rotation may be required; relocation support is available.

Qualifications

• Experience with database administration, maintenance, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting.
• Strong scripting/automation skills (Bash, PowerShell, Python, Ansible).
• Hands-on experience with Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Excellent understanding of IT operations, incident/change management, and controlled production environments.
• Ability to learn new database technologies quickly and work under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure initiatives, including platform upgrades and decommissioning.
• Build, maintain, and manage database environments to reduce physical servers and cut costs.
• Assess and deploy security patches and critical updates per compliance requirements.
• Evaluate new database technologies and run proofs-of-concept for safe adoption.
• Work with cloud database services and support evolution of the database estate.
• Provide technical consultancy on database design, resilience, performance, backup and recovery, and operations.
• Create and maintain standards, procedures, runbooks, and implementation guides.
• Provide management with clear updates on delivery progress, risks, and remediation plans.
• Support change and incident management activities, including root cause analysis.
• Participate in an on-call / support rota when required.

Job description

YOU WILL

• Lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives, including platform upgrades, evergreening, standardisation, estate hygiene, and decommissioning.
• Build, maintain, and manage database environments, supporting the transition towards reduced physical server deployments and improved cost efficiency.
• Assess and deploy security patches and critical updates in line with internal security, risk, and compliance requirements.
• Evaluate new database technologies and features, build proofs-of-concept, and support their safe adoption across the environment.
• Work with cloud database services where applicable and support the evolution of the database estate.
• Provide technical consultancy to project teams on database design, resilience, performance, backup and recovery, and operational readiness.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including standards, procedures, implementation guides, and runbooks.
• Provide management with clear updates on delivery progress, risks, dependencies, issues, and remediation plans.
• Support change and incident management activities, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Participate in an on-call / support rota when required.

MUST HAVE

• Strong hands-on experience with at least one enterprise relational database management system (RDBMS), such as:
• Oracle – including technologies such as RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, or Exadata
• DB2
• SQL Server
• Experience in database administration, maintenance, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting
• Experience with shell scripting and automation using technologies such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible
• Strong understanding of IT operations, including incident management, change management, and controlled production environments
• Ability to quickly learn and adopt new database technologies
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to different audiences
• Strong organisational skills and a methodical, detail-oriented approach
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines
• Willingness to participate in out-of-hours support when required

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, or Exadata
• Experience with cloud-based database services
• Experience delivering database or infrastructure modernisation and migration initiatives
• Experience creating proofs-of-concept and evaluating new database technologies
• Knowledge of database resilience, high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and performance optimisation
• Experience with infrastructure or database automation using Ansible, Python, or similar tools
