Job summary

ShipStation Global Poland is seeking an experienced Oracle DBA to design, implement, and maintain robust relational databases across development, testing, and production environments.

You will optimize performance, ensure data integrity, and implement security measures while handling on-call rotations to support mission-critical applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong Oracle Database Administration knowledge and hands-on experience.
  • In-depth SQL knowledge and proficiency.
  • Experience in managing SQL database systems.
  • Understanding of database architecture, indexing, normalization, and query optimization.
  • Experience with installation, configuration, backup/recovery, security, and performance tuning.
  • RMAN exposure or equivalent backup/recovery tools.
  • Linux/Unix familiarity and basic scripting for automation.
  • Knowledge of database security practices: authentication, access controls, encryption, auditing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with dev and infra teams.
  • Polish and English conversational level required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop database schemas, tables, and indexes to optimize performance and data integrity.
  • Implement and maintain database security measures, including user authentication and access controls.
  • Analyze performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle database software across environments.
  • Perform upgrades, migrations, and patching with minimal downtime.
  • Manage Oracle homes, instances, and listener configuration.
  • Plan and execute version upgrades and compatibility changes.
  • Monitor performance and troubleshoot slow queries, locks, and contention.
  • Maintain and review diagnostic reports (AWR/ASH-like) in SE2 environments.
  • Address bottlenecks via query optimization and index tuning.
  • Execute regular backups and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Configure RMAN backup strategies, including full/incremental/archived logs.
  • Test disaster recovery readiness and document runbooks.
  • Manage tablespaces, data files, redo/logs, and archivelogs.
  • Capacity planning and future-growth forecasting.
  • Optimize storage layouts for IO performance.
  • Manage roles, privileges, and least-privilege access policies.
  • Ensure data protection and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop automation scripts (Shell, Bash, Python, SQL).
  • Automate backup verification, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
  • Implement scheduled maintenance jobs.
  • Maintain technical documentation and runbooks.
  • Provide on-call support during incidents.
  • Collaborate with developers to optimize SQL and data access patterns.

About The Role

As DBA, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the organization's relational database systems. This role will ensure the integrity, availability, and performance of critical data to support business operations and decision-making processes. The DBA will work closely with IT teams, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver efficient and scalable database solutions that meet the organization's current and future needs. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in Oracle database management systems, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to translate business requirements into effective relational database solutions. This role will be critical in maintaining the organization's data infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision-making, and ensuring the optimal performance of mission-critical applications across the enterprise.

This role is expected to work on-call shifts.

What will you be doing?
  • Develop database schemas, tables, and indexes to optimize performance and ensure data integrity.
  • Implement and maintain database security measures, including user authentication, access controls, and data encryption.
  • Analyze and interpret database performance metrics to proactively identify areas for improvement
  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle database software and related components across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Perform database upgrades, migrations, and patching (PSU/RU) while minimizing downtime.
  • Manage Oracle homes, database instances, and listener configuration.
  • Plan and execute database version upgrades and compatibility changes.
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues such as slow queries, database locks, and resource contention.
  • Maintain and review AWR/ASH-like diagnostic reports or equivalent monitoring data available in SE2 environments like sp-reports.
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, and database configuration adjustments.
  • Perform regular backups and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data availability and integrity.
  • Configure and maintain RMAN backup strategies including full, incremental, and archived log backups.
  • Regularly test database recovery procedures to ensure disaster recovery readiness.
  • Document and maintain disaster recovery plans and recovery time objectives (RTO/RPO).
  • Manage tablespaces, data files, redo logs, and archive logs.
  • Perform capacity planning and forecasting to support future growth.
  • Optimize storage allocation and database layout to improve I/O performance.
  • Manage user roles, privileges, and access policies following least-privilege principles.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop automation scripts (Shell, Bash, Python, or SQL scripts) for routine administrative tasks.
  • Automate backup verification, monitoring checks, and maintenance tasks.
  • Implement scheduled database maintenance jobs.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Provide database support during production incidents and on-call rotations.
  • Optimize database indexes, query execution plans, and caching strategies to improve application responsiveness and scalability.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures for efficient data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Configure and maintain database replication, clustering, or failover mechanisms to provide resilience against hardware failures, network outages, or natural disasters.
  • Stay abreast of emerging database technologies, trends, and best practices through self-study, training, and participation in industry forums and conferences.
  • Collaborate with software developers to design database schemas that align with application requirements and development workflows.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to database best practices, performance guidelines, and data access patterns.
  • Work closely with application developers to optimize SQL queries, data access patterns, and database interactions for maximum efficiency.
What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Oracle Database Administration.
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language).
  • Proficiency in managing SQL database systems
  • Solid understanding of database architecture, data modeling, normalization, indexing, and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience in database administration tasks such as installation, configuration, backup and recovery, security management, and performance tuning is important.
  • Experience with core database administration activities, including installation, configuration, patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and monitoring.
  • Experience using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) or equivalent tools for backup and recovery operations.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and basic scripting for automation of administrative tasks.
  • Knowledge of database security best practices and experience in implementing security measures such as user authentication, access controls, encryption, and auditing are important.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex database issues.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with development and infrastructure teams
  • Polish and English conversational level is required for this role
