Job summary

UpcoMinds in Warsaw is seeking an experienced Senior MS SQL Database Administrator for a hybrid role. You will administer, monitor, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases across distributed environments, while supporting BI and cloud-based data services.

The role combines hands-on DB administration with performance tuning, data integration and incident management, requiring strong English communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience administering complex Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Expertise in SQL Server performance optimisation including DMVs and execution plans.
• Hands-on with Always On Availability Groups and SQL scripting.
• Experience with ETL processes and data integration in hybrid/cloud contexts.
• Familiarity with Microsoft BI tools and Fabric data services is a plus.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to join our team in a hybrid working model in Warsaw.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, optimisation and deployment of Microsoft SQL Server database services operating in complex and distributed environments.

The role combines hands‑on database administration with performance tuning, data integration, monitoring, incident management and technical documentation. You will also contribute to Microsoft Business Intelligence, Microsoft Fabric and cloud-based data services.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and monitor Microsoft SQL Server database services in complex and distributed environments.

• Provide 2nd line technical support for database management and related services.

• Troubleshoot database incidents, performance issues and operational problems.

• Perform database deployment, configuration and maintenance activities.

• Monitor database health, availability, capacity and performance.

• Plan database capacity and availability requirements.

• Perform database tuning and optimisation to ensure performance, reliability and scalability.

• Develop and maintain SQL scripts and support data transformation processes.

• Perform Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) activities and support data integration solutions.

• Implement changes in accordance with established ICT Change Management procedures.

• Manage database-related incidents and participate in root‑cause analysis.

• Support backup, recovery and disaster recovery activities.

• Administer and maintain high‑availability database environments, including SQL Server Always On deployments.

• Maintain and update technical documentation, operational procedures and knowledge‑base materials.

• Monitor infrastructure and database services using appropriate monitoring and diagnostic tools.

• Prepare regular reports on database activities, incidents, performance and operational status.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud and development teams to resolve technical issues.

• Stay up to date with evolving database, cloud and data‑platform technologies.

• Perform other database administration and technical duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Proven experience administering complex Microsoft SQL Server environments in distributed environments, including database deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, tuning, optimisation and capacity planning.

• Strong expertise in SQL Server performance optimisation, including SQL Profiler, Execution Plans, DMVs, recovery models, backup/restore and disaster recovery methodologies.

• Hands‑on experience with Always On Availability Groups, SQL scripting, ETL, data transformation and cloud‑based data integration tools.

• Experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence on‑premises solutions and Microsoft Fabric tools and services.

• Hands‑on experience with system monitoring and virtual infrastructure administration, with basic knowledge of other Microsoft technologies.

• Knowledge of Azure Cloud / Azure DevOps, DBPlus Performance Monitor and modern data‑platform technologies is an advantage.

• Experience working in restricted environments; active EU Confidential security clearance or higher is highly desirable.

• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate and/or Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate are considered an advantage.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, proactive attitude, teamwork spirit, self‑motivation and strong user orientation.

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical and business concepts to different audiences.
