Job summary

Vertex Agility seeks a Cloud FinOps Engineer to own cloud cost optimisation across a large multi-cloud estate. You will dive into usage data, decide what to change, and implement those changes through automation and infrastructure as code.

The initial focus is on logging, observability and storage cost drivers, with emphasis on retention, routing, and tiering strategies. The role requires strong practical depth in at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS or GCP) and breadth across others,

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Identify savings opportunities across log ingestion, retention, tiering, sampling and routing, ranking them by return and risk

• Build repeatable automation for logging and storage optimisation across the estate
• Prepare optimization proposals with projected savings forecasts and impact
• Improve tagging, labelling and allocation models for showback/chargeback
• Define and maintain cost policies and guardrails: retention standards, quotas, budget alerts
• Run sessions with platform teams and produce executive-ready reporting on trends and risks

Job Opportunity: Cloud FinOps Engineer (AWS / Azure / GCP)

Role Overview

We are looking for a Cloud FinOps Engineer to take ownership of cloud cost optimisation across a large multi-cloud estate. This is a technical, delivery-focused position rather than a reporting one: you will dig into usage data yourself, decide what is worth changing, and implement those changes through automation and infrastructure as code.

The estate runs on Azure, AWS and GCP, and strong practical depth in any one of them is enough to step into this role, with breadth across the others counting as a bonus rather than a condition. The initial focus sits on logging, observability and storage cost drivers: ingestion volumes, routing, retention and tiering, where the savings potential is largest. Alongside the delivery work, you will help shape tagging and allocation models, define guardrails that stop costs from creeping back, and present your findings and forecasts to senior engineering stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Identify and prioritise savings opportunities across log ingestion, retention, tiering, sampling and routing, ranking them by return and risk
• Implement approved changes through automation and IaC, with rollback plans and post-change validation
• Query and analyse logging data at scale using cloud native tooling to pinpoint what actually drives spend
• Build repeatable automation for logging and storage optimisation across the whole estate
• Prepare optimisation proposals with projected savings forecasts, clear assumptions and stated impact
• Improve tagging, labelling and allocation models to make showback and chargeback accurate
• Define and maintain cost policies and guardrails: retention standards, workspace quotas, budget alerts
• Run working sessions with platform and application teams, and produce executive-ready reporting on trends, forecast versus actual and risks

Requirements:

• Strong practical experience in a comparable cloud engineering or FinOps role
• Strong working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform and of what actually drives its bill: Azure (Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, Diagnostic Settings, Storage Accounts, Event Hub, Azure Policy, Cost Management), AWS (CloudWatch Logs, S3 lifecycle, Cost Explorer and CUR) or GCP (Cloud Logging, Log Router and Sinks, BigQuery, storage lifecycle policies and billing exports)
• Experience across a second or third platform is welcome but not required: the estate is multi-cloud, so readiness to extend into the other providers matters more than prior depth in all of them
• Solid understanding of logging and observability architecture: ingestion, routing, retention policies and the storage cost drivers behind them
• Proven ability to build and deploy automation at scale with Terraform, Python and/or Bash, including CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Azure DevOps
• Practical command of FinOps principles: cost allocation, showback and chargeback, optimisation levers, cost governance and guardrails in enterprise environments
• Track record of producing savings forecasts and business cases, and of presenting technical analysis to senior technical stakeholders
• Comfort operating inside compliance, operational risk and formal change control frameworks
