Job summary

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering / Information Systems / Engineering / IT or relevant professional certification in Data Science / Data Analytics preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement data science frameworks aligned with business objectives
• Oversee and manage data science portfolios for consistency and scalability
• Collaborate with business, IT, and analytics teams to create actionable AI/ML models and solutions
• Drive data governance and model performance tracking to support data-driven decisions
• Lead workshops and steering committees to ensure transparency and alignment across teams
• Evaluate and adopt data science tools (Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau) to enhance analytics capabilities

Our client National Bank of Pakistan is looking for a Unit Head - Data Science (AVP / VP) in Karachi.

The individuals who fulfill the below basic-eligibility criteria may apply for the following position:

Wing Head BI Advance Analytics

Educational /Professional Qualification:

• Minimum Graduation in Business Administration / Economics / Computer Science /Information Technology / Engineering or equivalent from a local or international university/ college / institute recognized by the HEC of Pakistan
• Candidates having a Masters degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering /Computer Information Systems / Engineering / Information Technology or relevant professional certification in Data Science / Data Analytics will be preferred

Experience:

• Minimum 06 years of experience in Banking and / or Telecom and / or Fintech and / or Capital Markets and / or Financial Institution and / or Technology Services provider(Software House or etc.), including 03 years of experience in Data Science and / or DataAnalytics and / or Machine Learning and / or AI Solution Development
• Candidates having experience in Data Science Frameworks and / or Data Governance and /or Machine Learning Ops and / or Performance Monitoring with hands-on experience in Generative AI and / or Large Language Model (LLM) solutions, including promptengineering and / or RAG and foundation-model deployment will be preferred

Other Skills / Expertise / Knowledge Required:

• Proven ability to drive data science initiatives by leveraging strong leadership and decision-making capabilities
• Skilled in translating complex data challenges into actionable insights and strategies that align with organizational goals
• Deep understanding of data science methodologies, including machine learning, AI, and advanced analytics tools, such as Python, R, SQL, and visualization platforms, like Power BI and Tableau
• Working knowledge of Generative AI and Agentic AI concepts, including promptengineering, RAG, vector databases / embeddings, and agent orchestration frameworks(e.g., LangChain or equivalent)
• Familiarity with LLMOps practices (model evaluation, hallucination monitoring, cost and latency management) and Responsible AI / AI governance principles for GenAI systems in a regulated environment

Outline of Main Duties / Responsibilities:

• To develop and implement data science frameworks aligned with business objectives
• To oversee and manage data science portfolios for consistency, scalability, and alignment
• To collaborate with business, IT, and analytics teams to create actionable AI/ML models and solutions
• To drive data governance and model performance tracking to support data-driven decisionsTo lead workshops and steering committees to ensure transparency and alignment across teams
• To evaluate and implement data science tools (Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau) to enhance analytics capabilities
• To mentor and develop high-performing data science teams, strengthening both technical and strategic skills
• To define KPIs, monitor metrics, and track the business impact of data science initiatives
• To lead the evaluation and adoption of Generative AI and Agentic AI use cases across the Bank from proof-of-concept through enterprise rollout
• To establish GenAI-specific governance and risk frameworks (data privacy, prompt security, model access controls) and partner with IT Security on LLM-specific risks, such as prompt injection and data exfiltration
• To perform any other assignment as assigned by the supervisor(s)

Employment Type:
