Job summary

AutoScale Ventures is seeking a Senior Software Architect for a fully remote role to design, build, and evolve large-scale backend systems used in production. You will lead system-level design, implement critical components, and guide other developers in executing high-impact projects.

The position emphasizes autonomous work, ownership of APIs and data pipelines, performance tuning, and mentoring colleagues through code reviews and design discussions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering or architecture.
• Experience designing APIs and backend systems at scale.
• Strong systems thinking: performance, scalability, failure modes, and maintainability.
• Ability to work autonomously and make high-impact technical decisions.
• Python experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools for productivity and code quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain backend systems that handle production workloads at scale.
• Lead architectural improvements and redesigns for APIs, crawlers, data pipelines, and other critical systems.
• Build new production systems from scratch and ensure long-term maintainability.
• Break down complex designs into actionable components and delegate tasks effectively.
• Support live systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with leadership and senior engineers on technical direction.
• Mentor developers through code reviews, design discussions, and best practices.
