ECLARO is seeking an experienced Specialty Commercial Property Underwriter to manage complex property risks from submission to renewal. This remote role is based in the Philippines and follows US night-shift hours by arrangement, offering independence and interaction with brokers and internal teams.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of commercial property underwriting, strong COPE, property valuation, and exposure analysis, plus familiarity with ISO/AAIS forms and rating platforms.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Specialty Commercial Property Underwriter

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Specialty Commercial Property Underwriter to manage complex commercial property risks throughout the underwriting lifecycle, from initial submission and risk evaluation to pricing, quoting, binding, and renewal.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of underwriting decisions, develop strong wholesale broker relationships, and contribute to portfolio performance and underwriting strategy. You will collaborate with underwriting leadership, actuarial, claims, inspection, and technology teams while supporting the development of junior underwriters.

Key Responsibilities

• Commercial Property Underwriting: Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal commercial property risks, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
• Risk Assessment & Pricing: Analyze COPE (Construction, Occupancy, Protection, Exposure), loss history, property valuations, inspections, and third-party risk data to determine appropriate pricing and coverage.
• Policy Management: Handle the complete underwriting process, including rating, quoting, binding, endorsements, and renewals.
• Coverage Evaluation: Structure appropriate limits, deductibles, terms, conditions, and exclusions using ISO, AAIS, and manuscript property forms.
• Broker Relationships: Work directly with wholesale brokers to assess submissions, negotiate coverage terms, and provide timely underwriting decisions.
• Technology & Risk Analytics: Leverage underwriting platforms, geospatial data, property valuation tools, hazard models, and AI-assisted underwriting solutions.
• Portfolio Management: Monitor loss trends, risk concentrations, emerging exposures, and overall portfolio quality.
• Team Collaboration: Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to underwriting guidelines, product enhancements, and process improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• 3+ years of commercial property underwriting experience, preferably within an MGA, Excess & Surplus (E&S) carrier, specialty insurer, or wholesale underwriting environment.
• Proven ability to independently assess, price, quote, and bind commercial property risks.
• Strong understanding of COPE, property valuation, risk exposures, loss drivers, and commercial property coverage structures.
• Working knowledge of ISO and/or AAIS commercial property forms and endorsements.
• Experience with underwriting workbenches, rating platforms, policy administration systems, and property risk data tools.
• Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, documentation skills, and effective communication with brokers and stakeholders.

Preferred:

• Experience underwriting older, historic, specialty, or other complex commercial properties.
• Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, AU, or equivalent insurance qualifications.
