Job summary

Hammerjack Pty Ltd is seeking a senior, performance-driven Underwriting & Lending Operations Lead to take full accountability for the credit underwriting queue, decision quality, and team performance. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, you will drive rapid turnaround times and enforce quality controls across the underwriting function.

You will mentor the underwriting team, building a high-accountability environment focused on application completeness, processing speed, and credit risk

Qualifications

• Senior underwriting or credit operations experience in commercial finance, FinTech, MCA, or business lending.
• Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing staff, driving team accountability, and balancing output with risk controls.
• Expert-level proficiency in financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment.
• Comfortable working within structured AU business hours to hit daily financial, processing, and team management targets.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage the underwriting team, setting output targets and monitoring KPI.
• Own the end-to-end application queue and ensure same-day funding coverage and that every complete application receives an initial decision within 24 hours.
• Maintain the pending application queue below 5% of monthly assessment volume and ensure no undecided files beyond five business days with clear next steps.
• Conduct regular quality checks on financial assessments, bank statement analyses, and final underwriting reviews to minimize defaults and uphold policy standards.
• Track and report metrics such as decline ratios and turnaround times to the Senior Operations Manager, escalating risks early.
• Partner with sales and front-office teams to ensure only complete, qualified applications pass to underwriting.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement standardized shift coverage to handle volume spikes within cut-off times.
