Qualifications

  • Background in sporting goods, footwear, apparel, or lifestyle retail is an advantage.

Position: Retail and Product Training Manager
Position Summary

The Retail and Product Training Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving retail operations and product training programs across all brands and store locations. This role ensures that all retail personnel possess the product knowledge, selling skills, customer service standards, and operational competencies required to achieve sales targets and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

The Retail and Product Training Manager works closely with Retail Operations, Brand Principals, Marketing, HR, and Store Managers/Supervisors to build a high-performing retail organization through structured learning and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Training and Development
  • Develop and implement the company's annual retail training calendar.

  • Design onboarding and certification programs for new employees.

  • Create and update training modules, manuals, presentations, videos, and e-learning materials.

  • Conduct classroom, virtual, and in-store training sessions.

  • Develop role-based learning paths for all retail positions.

  • Maintain training records and monitor completion rates.

Product Knowledge
  • Become the subject matter expert on all brands and product categories.

  • Coordinate product knowledge sessions with brand principals and suppliers.

  • Train employees on product features, technologies, benefits, fitting, and usage.

  • Ensure all retail personnel are updated on new product launches and seasonal collections.

  • Develop product comparison guides and quick-reference materials.

Sales Excellence
  • Train store teams on consultative selling techniques.

  • Improve conversion rate, average transaction value (ATV), and customer engagement.

  • Conduct coaching sessions based on store performance and mystery shopping results.

  • Reinforce upselling and cross-selling techniques.

  • Promote best practices that increase sales productivity.

Retail Operations Training
  • Train employees on standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and operational standards.

  • Conduct training on inventory management (SMMS), stock replenishment, visual merchandising, cashiering, and loss prevention.

  • Standardize retail execution across all store locations.

Performance Coaching
  • Conduct regular store visits to observe employee performance.

  • Identify competency gaps and recommend development plans.

  • Coach Store Managers and Area Managers on leadership and people development.

  • Provide individual coaching for underperforming employees.

Learning Assessment
  • Develop written examinations and practical assessments.

  • Evaluate training effectiveness using measurable KPIs.

  • Monitor employee certifications and competency levels.

  • Recommend retraining programs when necessary.

Collaboration
  • Partner with HR on onboarding and succession planning.

  • Work with Marketing to align training with promotional campaigns and product launches.

  • Coordinate with Brand Principals for specialized product training.

  • Support Retail Operations in improving store execution and customer experience.

Reporting

Prepare regular reports covering:

  • Training completion rates

  • Store training compliance

  • Product knowledge assessment results

  • Sales performance before and after training

  • Coaching activities and store visits

  • Recommended development initiatives
