ABOUT THE ROLE
The Rebar Engineer / Detailer ensures that rebar drawings, bar bending schedules, material quantities, and reinforcement details are accurate, and compliant with approved structural plans, project specification, applicable codes, and construction requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Rebar Detailing and Drawing Preparation
- Prepares detailed reinforcement drawings, shop drawings, placing drawings, and bar bending schedules based on approved structural and architectural drawings.
- Develops accurate reinforcement details for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, walls, stairs, retaining structures, and other reinforced concrete elements.
- Determines bar sizes, spacing, lengths, shapes, laps, anchorage, hooks, bends, and other reinforcement requirements.
- Ensures that rebar details are clear, complete, and suitable for fabrication and site installation.
- Incorporates approved design revisions and changes into rebar drawings and schedules.
2. Structural Drawing Review and Interpretation
- Reviews structural drawings, design calculations, specifications, and other project documents to identify reinforcement requirements.
- Checks drawings for inconsistencies, missing information, dimensional conflicts, and constructability concerns.
- Coordinates discrepancies and technical concerns with the Structural Engineer, Design Engineer, Project Engineer, or other concerned parties.
3. Rebar Quantity Take-Off and Estimation
- Performs reinforcement steel quantity take-offs based on approved drawings and project requirements.
- Prepares and maintains bar lists, material schedules, cutting lists, and bending schedules.
- Calculates rebar lengths, weights, quantities, and estimated material requirements.
- Assists in monitoring reinforcement material usage and identifying potential wastage or optimization opportunities.
- Coordinates with procurement and project teams regarding reinforcement requirements.
4. Shop Drawing and Technical Documentation
- Prepares and submits rebar shop drawings and related technical documents for review and approval.
- Maintains proper document control and ensures that the latest approved drawings are used for fabrication and installation.
- Keeps records of revisions, approvals, RFIs, technical clarifications, and other relevant documentation.
5. Construction and Site Coordination
- Provides technical clarification on rebar drawings and detailing during construction.
- Conducts site verification when required to confirm dimensions, existing conditions, and reinforcement installation requirements.
- Assists in resolving rebar-related site issues and detailing conflicts.
- Supports the construction team in ensuring that reinforcement is installed according to approved drawings and specifications.
6. BIM/CAD Modeling and Detailing
- Creates and updates reinforcement models and drawings using applicable CAD and/or BIM software.
- Coordinates reinforcement models with structural, architectural, and MEP models to identify potential clashes and conflicts.
7. Quality Control and Compliance
- Reviews rebar drawings and schedules for dimensional accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Ensures that reinforcement detailing complies with approved structural designs, project specifications, applicable standards, and construction requirements.
- Performs checking and cross-checking of bar marks, sizes, quantities, spacing, laps, bends, and other reinforcement details.
- Supports quality assurance and quality control activities related to reinforcement works.
8. Coordination and Communication
- Participates in technical coordination meetings and provides input on rebar detailing and constructability.
- Communicates technical issues clearly and promptly to the appropriate project personnel.
- Assists in preparing RFIs and technical queries for unclear or conflicting design information.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or any relevant course.
- Must be a Licensed Civil Engineer (PRC).
- Preferably with 2-5 years of relevant experience in rebar detailing, structural drafting, reinforced concrete construction, steel reinforcement fabrication, or related construction activities.
SKILLS / CORE COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other CAD detailing software.
- Knowledge of Revit Structure, Tekla Structures, or other BIM/rebar detailing software is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of reinforced concrete construction and reinforcement detailing.
- Ability to prepare and interpret rebar shop drawings and bar bending schedules.
- Competence in rebar quantity take-off and material estimation.
- Knowledge of reinforcement bar sizes, grades, spacing, laps, development lengths, hooks, bends, and anchorage requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret structural plans and engineering specifications.
- Ability to prepare technical queries, RFIs, reports, and other project documentation.
