Job summary

Private Advertiser in Metro Manila is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to support cargo fleet and equipment. You will assist in preventive maintenance scheduling, monitor inspections, document defects, and compile breakdown reports to improve reliability.

Responsibilities include coordinating with drivers and mechanics, ensuring roadworthiness, conducting post-repair inspections, and contributing to cost control and safety compliance. Prior maintenance experience is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

A. Preventive Maintenance

1. Assist in implementing the preventive maintenance schedule for:

   • Trucks and hauling equipment

   • Bulk carriers

   • Heavy equipment

   • Generators

   • Compressors, pumps, motors and related mechanical equipment

2. Monitor scheduled preventive maintenance and ensure that units are presented for inspection on time.

3. Conduct basic mechanical inspection and identify signs of:

   • Abnormal wear

   • Oil/fluid leaks

   • Overheating

   • Unusual noise or vibration

   • Brake problems

   • Clutch/transmission issues

   • Suspension problems

   • Tire and wheel-related concerns

4. Maintain an updated preventive maintenance monitoring system for all assigned equipment.

5. Recommend replacement or repair of components based on actual condition and maintenance history.

B. Fleet and Equipment Inspection

1. Conduct regular inspection of company vehicles and equipment.

2. Assist in checking the roadworthiness and operating condition of trucks before deployment.

3. Verify critical components such as:

   • Engine

   • Transmission

   • Clutch

   • Brake system

   • Steering

   • Suspension

   • Tires

   • Electrical components

   • Cooling system

   • Hydraulic system

   • Safety devices

4. Document defects and prepare maintenance recommendations.

5. Immediately report safety-critical defects that may compromise the operation of the unit.

C. Breakdown and Troubleshooting Assistance

1. Assist in diagnosing mechanical breakdowns.

2. Determine the probable cause of failure based on:

   • Physical inspection

   • Driver/operator reports

   • Maintenance history

   • Equipment symptoms

   • Diagnostic results

3. Assist mechanics and technicians during repair activities.

4. Monitor the progress of breakdown repairs and ensure proper completion.

5. Prepare a breakdown report indicating:

   • Unit/equipment affected

   • Date and time of breakdown

   • Problem encountered

   • Initial diagnosis

   • Root cause, when established

   • Corrective action

   • Parts replaced

   • Downtime

   • Recommendation to prevent recurrence

D. Repair and Maintenance Monitoring

1. Monitor all ongoing repair jobs.

2. Verify that repairs are performed according to approved procedures.

3. Conduct post-repair inspection before recommending the unit for return to service.

4. Ensure that replaced parts and repair work are properly documented.

5. Monitor recurring repairs and identify units requiring further technical evaluation.

6. Assist in evaluating whether repair, replacement, or preventive intervention is the most economical solution.

E. Maintenance Cost Control

1. Assist in monitoring maintenance expenses per unit.

2. Track frequently replaced parts and components.

3. Identify recurring repairs that may indicate improper repair, poor operating practices, or equipment deterioration.

4. Assist in preparing repair cost estimates and recommendations.

5. Monitor parts consumption against approved repair requirements.

6. Report unusual or excessive maintenance expenses to the Maintenance Manager.

F. Maintenance Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of:

• Preventive maintenance

• Corrective maintenance

• Breakdown reports

• Repair history

• Parts replacement

• Equipment downtime

• Inspection results

• Roadworthiness inspection

• Maintenance costs

• Recurring defects

• Unit availability

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports as required.

G. Coordination with Drivers, Operators and Mechanics

1. Receive and document driver/operator complaints regarding vehicle or equipment condition.

2. Validate reported problems through physical inspection.

3. Coordinate with mechanics regarding required repairs.

4. Educate drivers/operators regarding proper equipment operation and basic preventive practices.

5. Monitor driver-related mechanical issues and report repeated abuse, negligence, or improper operation.

H. Safety and Compliance

1. Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with company safety procedures.

2. Never recommend deployment of a unit with a defect that may compromise safety.

3. Ensure proper use of PPE during maintenance inspection and activities.

4. Immediately report serious safety hazards.

5. Participate in safety inspections and maintenance-related investigations.

I. Continuous Improvement

1. Analyze recurring mechanical failures and recommend corrective measures.

2. Assist in developing preventive maintenance improvements.

3. Recommend improvements in maintenance procedures, inspection checklists, tools, and equipment.

4. Participate in root-cause analysis of major equipment failures.

5. Maintain a database of recurring defects and corrective actions.
