Job summary

HSBC in the Philippines is seeking a Payroll Lead (AVP) to oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a large population and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, with strong governance of calendars, cut-offs and reconciliations.

You will manage stakeholder and vendor partnerships across HR, Finance, Tax and Legal, drive process improvements, automation, and risk controls while leading payroll teams to deliver reliable, compliant payroll services.

Qualifications

  • Years of experience in payroll and broader Human Resource operations leading end-to-end payroll delivery for a large population (ideally 3,000+ employees).
  • supervisory and managerial experience with people leadership and performance management capability.
  • Payroll experience within a banking or financial services environment is strongly preferred.
  • Solid experience in tax annualization, including year-end processing, adjustments, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll regulations and statutory requirements, including salaries, taxes, government-mandated benefits, and related reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll systems and interfaces, with ability to troubleshoot data and process issues.
  • Proven experience supporting payroll transitions or migrations, including cutover planning, parallel runs, and stabilization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify root causes, assess risk, and implement sustainable fixes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Human Resource Operations for Payroll Administration to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.

  • Own end-to-end payroll operations, including payroll calendars, cut-offs, input management, validations, approvals, and reconciliations.
  • Oversee post-payroll activities, including exception handling, corrections, and closure activities.
  • Own payroll MI and performance management, tracking SLAs, accuracy, timeliness, error rates, and customer experience.
  • Lead payroll risk management, audit readiness, and control effectiveness, ensuring issues are identified early and remediated sustainably.
  • Manage stakeholder and vendor partnerships across Human Resource, Finance, Tax, Legal, and third‑party payroll providers, including escalation management.
  • Drive continuous improvement through standardisation, automation, and process redesign, while leading and developing payroll teams.

You’ll Do

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
  • Years of experience in payroll and broader Human Resource operations, including years of experience in leading end-to-end payroll delivery for a large population (ideally 3,000+ employees).
  • Years of suvervisory and managerial experience, with proven people leadership and performance management capability.
  • Payroll experience within a banking or financial services environment is strongly preferred.
  • Solid experience in tax annualization, including year‑end processing, adjustments, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll regulations and statutory requirements, including salaries, taxes, government‑mandated benefits, and related reporting.
  • Hands‑on experience with payroll systems and interfaces, with the ability to troubleshoot data and process issues.
  • Proven experience supporting payroll transitions or migrations, including cutover planning, parallel runs, and stabilization.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes, assess risk, and implement sustainable fixes.

Candidate with less relevant experience or skills may be offered a lower Global Career Band than stated above.
