Job summary

ING is seeking an experienced Operations Engineer for the Java Platform Team in the Accounts & Cash Management domain. You will ensure stability, scalability, and resilience of banking platforms while driving continuous improvement across engineering teams.

You will own platform availability and lead incident management, upgrades, and migrations, with a strong focus on automation, observability, and regulatory compliance across global teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Operations Engineering, Platform Engineering or DevOps.
• Hands-on Azure DevOps experience with repos, pipelines, boards and tests.
• OpenShift and Kubernetes administration and support expertise.
• Linux administration, shell scripting and automation.
• Strong observability knowledge with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana).
• Understanding of cloud platforms, networks, containers and IaC.
• Incident management, troubleshooting and service restoration experience.
• Analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience conducting RCA and implementing long-term fixes.

About The Team

You'll be part of the Java Platform Team within ING's Accounts & Cash Management Domain, supporting critical financial services and payment capabilities.

Working in a multidisciplinary Agile environment, you'll collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and platform specialists across multiple locations. Together, you'll help deliver secure, scalable, and highly available solutions that support essential banking operations.

What You'll Do

As an Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the operational health of our platforms by:

• Owning platform availability, reliability, performance, and operational stability
• Leading application lifecycle management, infrastructure upgrades, and platform migrations
• Driving risk remediation, security initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities
• Managing major incidents and coordinating service restoration efforts
• Performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures
• Enhancing observability through monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and operational runbooks
• Automating operational processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
• Collaborating with engineering, architecture, security, and platform teams to deliver resilient solutions
• Supporting IT Operations processes including Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management

What You'll Bring

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience in Operations Engineering, Platform Engineering, or DevOps environments
• Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, including Repositories, Pipelines, Boards, Artifacts, and Test Plans
• Expertise in OpenShift and Kubernetes administration and support
• Experience with Linux administration, shell scripting, and automation
• Strong knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry
• Experience with the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
• Understanding of cloud platforms, infrastructure, networking, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Proven experience in incident management, troubleshooting, and service restoration
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implementing long-term fixes
