Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking a technically capable Mechanical Estimator to support an Australian-based sales engineering team specialising in cooling tower and mechanical equipment solutions.
Working closely with experienced Sales Engineers, the Mechanical Estimator will assist in preparing technical estimates, quotations and tender submissions for projects across HVAC, data centres, industrial facilities, power generation and other major infrastructure environments.
Projects range from straightforward equipment supply through to complex solutions involving equipment selection, assembly, freight, demolition, installation and onsite works.
This role would suit a Mechanical Engineer with strong technical aptitude who enjoys the detail of estimating and tendering and can translate technical requirements into accurate, commercially structured quotations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documentation, technical specifications, schedules and customer requirements.
- Work closely with Sales Engineers to understand the required technical solution and scope of works.
- Use specialist web-based equipment selection tools to select appropriate cooling tower products and configurations.
- Prepare detailed estimates and quotations covering equipment, auxiliary components, materials, labour, assembly, freight and onsite requirements.
- Support both straightforward supply-only quotations and complex multi-component project estimates.
- Prepare tender submissions, schedules and associated documentation.
- Complete tender returnables and assist with submissions through customer tender portals where required.
- Review revised specifications and update equipment selections, pricing and quotations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaise closely with the Australian Sales Engineers to clarify requirements, pricing assumptions and technical details.
- Maintain accurate estimating and tender documentation.
- Assist with general sales administration directly associated with quotations and tender submissions.
- Help the sales team improve quotation turnaround times and respond efficiently to customer opportunities.
Qualifications and Requirements
Personal Attributes
- Technically curious and able to learn complex products quickly.
- Methodical and highly organised.
- Comfortable working across multiple tenders and priorities.
- Proactive in seeking clarification rather than making assumptions.
- Commercially aware while maintaining strong technical accuracy.
- Able to build a close working relationship with an Australian-based Sales Engineer.
- Comfortable working independently while remaining part of a collaborative sales and engineering team.
Training
- Full training will be provided on the company's products, processes and specialist SPX selection tools. Previous experience with the specific software is not required.
- The successful candidate will initially work closely with the Sales Engineers to understand how solutions are selected, estimated and presented, with the expectation that they will progressively take ownership of more of the estimating and tender preparation process.
