Job Description
Overview
- As an Assistant Estimator, you will support the Estimator in preparing accurate and competitive quotes for industrial door projects, while managing the sales lead pipeline for stripdoor and accessory products from initial enquiry through to quotation. You will help gather site and tender information, prepare draft cost estimates for the Estimator’s review, and keep leads, quotes and correspondence up to date in the system. This is an assistant-level role: all cost estimates and quotes are reviewed and approved by the Estimator before being issued to customers.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead Management & Prospecting:
- Follow up sales leads and enquiries for industrial door, stripdoor and accessory products, identifying potential customers and assessing their needs.
- Capture and enter Contact and Lead data in the CRM/system from all enquiry sources (marketing campaigns, web enquiries, phone calls, referrals).
- Quote & Estimate Support:
- Qualify incoming enquiries and prepare preliminary cost estimate drafts from tender documentation, plans and site information, for the Estimator's review and sign-off.
- Gather supplier quotations and cost database information to support the Estimator's pricing.
- Prepare and format quotes and proposals for issue, under the Estimator's direction.
- Manage quotes, email enquiries and customer calls for stripdoor, bollard and accessory products, from enquiry through to order processing.
- Customer Interaction:
- Liaise with builders, end users and the sales team to clarify project details and gather information on the Estimator's behalf.
- Provide first-line responses to customer enquiries, escalating technical questions to the Estimator.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers to foster repeat business and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Follow up on submitted quotes for status updates, process orders, and manage ongoing enquiries for stripdoors, bollards and accessories.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and submit quotes and proposals in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, leads, quotes and project correspondence in the system.
- Provide weekly reporting on leads, quotes and conversion status as directed by the Estimator or Sales Manager.
- Administration:
- Manage the sales/estimating email inbox and diary, scheduling site assessments and customer meetings for the Estimator and sales team.
- Report and initiate follow-up on outstanding calls, open leads and quotations.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Support the Estimator in identifying process improvements in the lead-to-quote workflow.
- Stay informed of product updates relevant to stripdoor and accessory quoting.
- Provide feedback to the Estimator and management on lead handling and quoting practices
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Relevant industry certifications are a plus — full training and mentoring is provided by the Estimator.
Experience:
- Experience in a sales administration, quoting, customer service or similar admin support role is highly regarded.
- Exposure to the construction, building products or trade services industry is an advantage but not essential.
