Job summary

Gate 1 Travel seeks a Learning and Development Officer to design, develop, and deliver enterprise-wide training programs spanning onboarding, compliance, and leadership development. You will partner with leaders and SMEs to tailor content for a global, distributed workforce and ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across locations.

This role reports to the Director, Human Resources and requires expertise in instructional design, virtual training, and LMS administration.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years in corporate training or instructional design
• Experience in compliance training and leadership development content
• Experience presenting to large groups
• Experience in travel or hospitality industry preferred
• Prior experience in a remote role required
• Hands-on Absorb LMS administration and Articulate 360 course building preferred

Job description

We are a well-established international tour operator serving primarily American and Canadian travelers, with decades of experience delivering high-quality, value-driven travel programs worldwide.

The Learning and Development Officer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering learning programs that support employee onboarding, compliance, professional growth, and leadership development across the organization. This role partners with business leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify training needs, develop effective learning solutions, and enhance employee capability and performance.

As part of a global organization, the Learning and Development Officer collaborates with teams across multiple locations to ensure training programs are consistently delivered, relevant, and aligned with organizational goals and standards. The role plays a key part in fostering a culture of continuous learning and development across a diverse and distributed workforce.

This position reports directly to the Director, Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, development, and delivery of company-wide/universal training programs, including new-hire onboarding and ongoing skill-building initiatives
• Partner with department leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify training needs and provide instructional design guidance and support for department-specific content, while the department retains ownership of that content
• Develop instructional design templates, tools, and best-practice guidelines that enable department SMEs to build and maintain effective training content
• Design and facilitate virtual instructor-led training (VILT) and self-paced e-learning for both small and large remote audiences
• Design and administer compliance training programs (e.g. data privacy, code of conduct, and other regulatory requirements), ensuring completion is tracked and documented
• Develop and deliver leadership development and management training programs to build a strong pipeline of frontline and mid-level leaders
• Build interactive e-learning courses and modules using Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise)
• Administer the Absorb LMS platform, including course publishing, enrollment, learner records, completion tracking, and reporting
• Lead the virtual onboarding experience for new employees, ensuring a smooth, engaging, and consistent start for a distributed workforce
• Partner with managers to assess employees’ skills, performance, and productivity, and translate findings into targeted training solutions
• Measure and analyze training effectiveness through learner feedback, LMS analytics, and performance data, using insights to continuously improve programs
• Maintain, audit, and update company-wide training programs, manuals, and content libraries to ensure they remain accurate, current, and aligned with brand and regulatory standards
• Track training-related expenses and provide input to the Director, Human Resources for training budget planning
• Partner with overseas locations and international teams to deliver, localize, and coordinate training programs that meet the needs of a globally distributed workforce
• Champion the organization’s brand values and culture through all training and development initiatives

Qualifications & Experience

• A minimum of 4 to 5 years' experience in a corporate training, learning & development, or instructional design role
• Proven experience designing and delivering compliance training and leadership development content
• Proven experience with presenting to large groups of people
• Experience in the travel or hospitality industry strongly preferred
• Prior experience successfully working in a remote role required
• Hands-on experience administering Absorb LMS and building courses in Articulate 360 preferred
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
