About the role

The IT Staff – Accounting Systems & Automation is responsible for providing technical, systems, data, and automation support to the Accounting Department. The position will focus on using Python programming and other technology tools to improve accounting processes, automate repetitive tasks, enhance data accuracy, generate reports, and support the efficient processing and management of financial and accounting information. The position will work closely with the Accounting Team to identify manual and repetitive processes that can be improved through automation, data processing, reporting solutions, and system enhancements. This position requires a strong combination of accounting-process understanding, computer proficiency, data management, and Python programming capability.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day technical support to the Accounting Department in relation to accounting systems, applications, databases, reports, and digital tools
• Develop and maintain Python scripts and applications for Accounting Department requirements
• Identify repetitive accounting processes that may be automated and develop automation tools for data consolidation, data validation, file conversion, report generation, data extraction, spreadsheet processing, reconciliation support, payroll/accounting data preparation, and accounts monitoring
• Use Python libraries and tools such as Pandas, NumPy, OpenPyXL, and other appropriate libraries to process accounting data
• Automate the preparation and consolidation of accounting reports
• Assist in extracting and processing accounting data from approved systems and prepare automated reports and dashboards as required by Accounting Management
• Develop advanced Excel-based solutions integrated with Python where appropriate and automate repetitive spreadsheet activities
• Study existing Accounting processes and identify opportunities for automation, working with Accounting personnel to understand process requirements before developing solutions
• Maintain strict confidentiality of financial, accounting, payroll, employee, and company data and follow company information-security policies and procedures
• Prepare technical documentation for developed scripts, tools, and automation processes and maintain an inventory of Python scripts and automated accounting solutions

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Accounting Information Systems, or a related field; candidates with an Accounting, Finance, or Business degree may also be considered if they possess strong programming and IT competencies
• Valid Python Programming Certification (mandatory requirement)
• Working knowledge of Python programming fundamentals, variables, data types, loops, functions, conditional statements, object-oriented programming, file handling, exception handling, data processing, API fundamentals, script development, and automation
• Working knowledge of Python libraries including Pandas, NumPy, OpenPyXL, Requests, and Matplotlib
• Working knowledge of SQL, database queries, data extraction, data validation, and basic database concepts
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint; advanced Excel knowledge is highly preferred
• At least a basic understanding of general accounting processes, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, bank reconciliation, financial reporting, payroll-related data, accounting records, financial data validation, and basic accounting controls
• Demonstrated analytical thinking, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, accuracy, accountability, confidentiality, initiative, continuous learning, organization, teamwork, communication, and responsiveness
• Preferably at least 1 year of experience in IT, programming, data analytics, accounting systems, or automation; fresh graduates may be considered if they possess valid Python certification, strong Python programming skills, strong Excel skills, demonstrated programming projects, and excellent analytical ability
