Job summary

Ingenious Solutions Inc. seeks an inpatient medical coder to apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding to medical records for inpatient encounters.

You will review charts to determine principal diagnoses, co-morbidities, and procedures, and assign POA values and DRGs in line with coding guidelines. Qualified candidates will have a medical or allied medical degree, recognized coder certification (CIC or CCS), and experience with EPIC or similar EMR platforms, with 2–3 years in inpatient coding.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical or Allied Medical courses (or equivalent in clinical work).
• Certified Coder under AAPC (CIC) or AHIMA (CCS).
• Experience with EPIC and other EMR and Coding Platforms.

Responsibilities

• Abstract, code, and sequence diagnoses, procedures, and treatment modalities per ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS for inpatient encounters.
• Review provider documentation to determine principal diagnoses, co-morbidities and procedures.
• Assign POA values for inpatient diagnoses as a supplement for ICD-10-CM coding.
• Assign correct DRG and perform coding compliance reviews following official guidelines.

Job description

Provide coding services on inpatient medical records using the latest appropriate International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems. Thoroughly review medical records including charts and procedures and assign diagnostic and procedural codes based on review results.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for abstracting, coding, and sequencing diagnoses, medical/surgical procedures, and treatment modalities according to appropriate classification system [International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM and PCS), American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)] for inpatient encounters, meeting productivity and quality measures daily
• Review appropriate provider documentation to determine principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions, and surgical procedures
• Assign Present on Admission (POA) value for inpatient diagnoses as a supplement for ICD-10 CM coding.
• Assign correct diagnostic related grouping (DRG) and perform coding compliance reviews. Follow official coding guidelines to review and analyze health records.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical or Allied Medical courses or equivalent in relevant clinical work experience.
• Certified Coder under AAPC (CIC) or AHIMA (CCS)
• Experience with EPIC and other EMR and Coding Platforms
• 2-3 years of previous inpatient coding experience for different patient types – multi specialty
