Wilmar Edible Oils Philippines, Inc. in Misamis Oriental is seeking a Safety and Pollution Control Officer to lead health, safety and environmental programs across operations.
You will develop and implement EHS policies, conduct risk assessments, supervise inspections, investigate accidents, and ensure regulatory compliance with DOLE and environmental permits. Collaboration with contractors and internal teams is essential.
Responsible for developing and maintaining intensive environmental programs for sustainable development. Ensures compliance with environmental protection.
Identifies significant environmental aspects and impacts of the company’s operational activities and recommends possible mitigating measures in the formulation and/or review of the Environmental Management Plan and Contingency Plan.
Ensures the proper performance, operation, and maintenance of environmental management facilities or systems of the company, such as:
Wastewater Treatment facilities
Air Pollution Devices
Hazardous waste management storage areas
Solid waste management facilities and environmental monitoring devices
Identifies, investigates, and monitors air, land, and water pollution within the company. Taking formal action to secure environmental improvement.
Supervises contractors and other third-party providers with the delivery of environmental monitoring and other services.
Supervises the effective maintenance of Effluent Treatment Plant facilities and equipment.
Conducts supervision of ETP staff.
Monitors the treatment process of all sampling points according to quality standards.
Monitors operational consumption under budget allocation.
Conducts regular supervision in managing and carrying out potential environmental prevention, control, and monitoring to protect the safety, health, and environmental effects, such as water pollution, biodiversity, and habitat degradation, through pollution prevention and controls.
Provides subject matter expertise across sites whilst driving resource, energy, and utility efficiencies.
Responsible for the environmental management system, including audit management, procedure control, and operational management of the systems.
Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the Environmental Permit are adhered to, including emissions and water monitoring.
Responsible for producing and submitting Environmental Permitting notifications/variations, driving improvement programs, and ensuring that Environmental Protection authorization requirements are met.
Responsible for understanding the requirements and legislation of the relevant regulatory authorities, e.g., the Environment Agency, Water Authority, and communicating that information to management.
Manages, develops, maintains, supports, and/or coordinates environmental and sustainable development initiatives underway in line with the Company's Strategic objectives and priorities.
Develop and sustain local partnerships with groups, organizations, and agencies with the above.
Carries out regular site inspections to check that safety policies and procedures are properly implemented.
Inspect the plant premises, processes, and procedures. Ensures good health and safety practices.
Carries out examinations of machinery, working environments, and structures, taking measurements of noise, heat, and vibrations, and taking photographs and samples where necessary.
Responsible for providing workers with suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as eye goggles, ear protectors, appropriate types of gloves, and clothing.
Keeps up to date with new legislation and health and safety standards.
Submits report on results of inspection and investigations. Ensures complete and detailed paperwork.
Ensures working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
Keeps records of inspection findings and produces reports that suggest improvements.
Ensure equipment is installed safely.
Investigate accidents and complaints and determine if there has been a breach of health and safety law.
Investigate precautions taken to prevent industrial diseases.
Investigate procedures for working in hazardous environments or with potentially harmful substances.
Records incidents and accidents and produces statistics for reporting.
Responds to accidents/incidents, and requests any additional assistance, such as emergency medical assistance, etc.
Documents incidents and accidents, gathers evidence, conducts interviews with workers and witnesses, and analyzes conditions leading to the event.
Secures the scene and preserves evidence collected for the investigation of the accident or incident.
Conduct interviews with accident victims.
Conducts follow-up on near-miss accident investigations.
Completes written accident reports. Testifies in matters brought before the reporting.
Initiates and participates in field training programs in Accident and Incident. Conducts formal on-the-job training in accident investigation techniques.
Assists Fire-Rescue personnel by ensuring injured people receive the appropriate emergency medical assistance, i.e., CPR, and advanced first-aid techniques.
Provides training to staff on investigative procedures, such as implementing safety controls at the scene of the accident, conducting interviews, report writing, and testifying.
Develops health and safety working programs and strategies.
Develops methods to predict possible hazards drawn from experience, historical data, and other appropriate information sources
Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
Outlines safe operational procedures that identify and take into account all relevant hazards.
Prepares health and safety strategies and initiates the development of internal policy.
Leads in-house training with Supervisors and employees about health and safety issues and risks.
Keeps up to date new legislation and maintains a working knowledge of all Health and Safety (HS) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry.
Attends Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars, conventions, and meetings for the information of new updates.
Produces management reports, newsletters, and bulletins on safety and health.
Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
Undertakes appropriate training and/or study for personal and professional development and contributes to knowledge-sharing initiatives and programs.
Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions and meet compliance standards regarding safety regulations.
Develop plans and review safety and risk performance against targets regularly to ensure continuous improvement.
Drives effective emergency response plans and access control or loss prevention systems.
Reviews and processes statutory and regulatory requirements of the industry in compliance with relevant rules and regulations on Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Standards.
Adhere to and comply with all management programs implemented by the company, including but not limited to food safety and quality management system, environmental, health, and safety regulations, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence frameworks.
A graduate of Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
A license, and/or post-graduate course, is an advantage but not a requirement.

Three years of experience as a Safety and Pollution Control Assistant in a Manufacturing Industry or an equivalent field.
