CPS Asia Pacific is seeking a Database Operations Specialist to support the reliability, availability, and performance of our database environments. You will handle database administration, SQL development, data maintenance, and operational support.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases such as MariaDB and MySQL, plus familiarity with AWS RDS, data migration, automation, backups, and performance tuning.
We are looking for a Database Operations Specialist to support the reliability, availability, and performance of the organization's database environments. This position will be involved in database administration, SQL development, data maintenance, performance optimization, and operational support.
The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience working with SQL and relational databases, along with strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities. Experience with MariaDB, MySQL, AWS RDS, database automation, and data migration will be an advantage.
Support the day‑to‑day administration and maintenance of relational database environments.
Monitor database performance, availability, and overall system health.
Investigate database errors, performance issues, and operational incidents.
Perform routine maintenance activities including backups, restoration, cleanup, and recovery.
Manage database users, permissions, and access based on established requirements.
Perform regular checks to ensure data remains accurate, consistent, and reliable.
Create, maintain, and improve SQL queries, scripts, stored procedures, and other database objects.
Analyze and optimize queries to improve execution time and overall database performance.
Review indexing strategies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Create and maintain tables, views, stored procedures, and related database structures.
Modify existing database solutions to support changing business and operational requirements.
Process data updates, bulk transactions, and large‑volume data transfers.
Support internal requests involving data extraction, updates, validation, and reporting.
Review datasets and investigate inconsistencies, missing information, or unexpected results.
Perform data validation and quality checks before and after major database activities.
Coordinate with internal teams to investigate and resolve data‑related issues.
Identify repetitive database tasks and opportunities for process improvement.
Develop scripts or automation solutions to reduce manual activities and improve operational efficiency.
Assist with data migration, ETL, and database integration initiatives.
Contribute to improvements in database procedures, documentation, and operational standards.
Maintain accurate documentation for database procedures, configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting steps.
Coordinate with IT and business teams when resolving database or data‑related concerns.
Communicate technical issues and recommended solutions clearly to relevant stakeholders.
Follow established security, change management, and data handling procedures.
At least 2 years of professional experience in SQL scripting and database administration or management.
2‑3 years of hands‑on experience with MariaDB or MySQL is preferred.
Candidates without MariaDB/MySQL experience may be considered with at least 2 years of experience working with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), or PostgreSQL.
Strong working knowledge of:
SQL scripting and query development
Database indexing and optimization
Stored procedures
Relational database concepts
Database design and maintenance
Familiarity with AWS RDS and Amazon CloudWatch is an advantage.
Basic knowledge of Linux commands and Shell scripting.
Experience with database administration tasks such as:
User and access management
Backup and restoration
Data maintenance
Database monitoring
Exposure to automation, ETL processes, or data migration is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when working with large or sensitive datasets.
Able to handle both routine operational activities and complex database issues.
Good collaboration and communication skills when working with internal technical and business teams.
Comfortable working independently and following established technical procedures.
The ideal candidate is a technically capable database professional who can manage routine database operations while also investigating performance issues, improving SQL queries, and supporting data‑related projects.
