Job summary

Bloomberry Resorts and Hotels Inc. is seeking a Database Engineer to manage day-to-day operations, capacity planning, and performance tuning for critical database systems across MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, DB2 and MongoDB.

You will coordinate with security and network teams, implement high availability solutions, backups, patching, and DR plans, ensuring SLA compliance in a 24/7 environment. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with enterprise databases, cloud DB platforms

Qualifications

• 5+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
• Experience in 24/7 operations with SLAs and incident response.
• Proven migrations to newer database versions.
• Implemented high-availability, BC/DR and continuity solutions.
• Cloud database experience across GCP, AWS, Azure.
• Exposure to virtualization technologies is a plus.

• Closely work with the production support team in testing environments and issue investigations
• Provide capacity planning of database server hardware resources
• Ensure all server issues are addressed within an SLA
• Suggests and implements process and systems improvement

• Creates and monitors backup strategy
• Provides patch management on database servers
• Daily monitors system logs and root cause analysis of errors

POSITION SUMMARY

The Database Engineer is responsible for providing day-to-day management, capacity planning, performance optimization, incident resolution, and overall support for database systems, including systems running on the platform.

This position is an escalation point for critical core gaming systems and related outages. Provides assistance and monitoring across all IT projects using or interfacing with MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, DB2 and MongoDB and ensures that the outcomes of work are delivering the most effective and robust way to run business applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Setups, maintenance, and monitoring of high availability of database servers
• Closely work with the production support team in setting up testing environments, review test plans and test cases, and investigate technical issues raised
• Provide capacity planning of database server hardware resources
• Ensure all server issues are addressed within a service level agreement (SLA)
• Suggests and implements process and systems improvement
• Work closely with the network team on company security policy
• Creates and monitors backup strategy
• Provides patch management on database servers
• Daily monitors system logs and provides root cause analysis of errors

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• At least five (5) years of career experience handling hundreds of servers and databases in a 24/7 environment.
• Successful implementation of infrastructure roll-out, upgrades, administration, and decommissioning with relation to databases.
• Demonstrated migrations of databases to newer versions.
• Successfully implemented different high-availability solutions, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
• Strong and proven competencies on Microsoft SQL (Always-On), MySQL (InnoDB Cluster, Master-Slave replication), Oracle (RAC, Dataguard) and PostgreSQL (PostgreHA).
• Strong experience in performance monitoring, database optimization, and index tuning
• Experience in other databases such as DB2 and MongoDB is a plus.
• Experience and exposure in different Cloud Database technologies (GCP, AWS and Azure).
• Experience in BCP/DR configuration and monitoring including backup and recovery scenarios
• Adequate exposure in Data Warehousing, Stored Procedure optimization, SQL Server optimization, and disk space optimization for performance (RAID and SAN)
• Experience with Virtualization Technologies is preferred.
