Job Description
- 1. Data Rules and Standards:Write and maintain the rules for handling reporting data: how it is collected, stored, used, changed, and disposed of. Keep the rules short and easy to follow, and add more as the team grows.
- 2. Agreed Definitions of Business Numbers:Make sure every figure in a report has one agreed meaning, such as revenue, volume, customer, and voyage. Record who owns each definition and when it takes effect. Settle disagreements between departments before the number is published.
- 3. Data Dictionary:Maintain the Data Dictionary: what each piece of information means, who owns it, and how sensitive it is. Update it whenever systems change. Record which reports use which sources, so a change can be assessed before a report breaks.
- 4. Data Accuracy and Trust:Set the standard for when a figure is fit to publish. Run regular checks to catch missing, duplicate, or wrong data before it reaches a report. Refer problems to the department that owns the source and follow them to a fix. Report on data quality regularly.
- 5. Access to Information:Decide and document who can see what in the data warehouse and report server. Know where personal and sensitive information sits in both, and set the rules for hiding, keeping, and disposing of it under the Data Privacy Act and company policy. Keep a record of every approval. Review access regularly and remove it when people transfer or leave.
- 6. Requirements and Approval of New Reports:Work with stakeholders to gather accurate business requirements and write them down. Approve every report request before work starts. A request proceeds only when the need is written down, a business owner is named, the definitions are agreed, and the figures match the source. Keep the list of approved reports current and retire duplicates.
- 7. Report Design, Testing and Validation:Assist in developing dashboards in Power BI. Test and validate dashboards and data before release, and trace each figure back to its source. Where the same person built and approved a report, have the Data Engineering Head confirm the approval.
- 8. Introduction, Documentation, Training and Adoption:Introduce dashboards to business stakeholders and write user-friendly documentation for each one. Run regular training on the data governance framework so people understand the rules and why they exist. Train both report users and report builders. Organize the Data Governance Council once it is formed.
- 9. Analytics Projects and Process Improvement: Oversee assigned analytics projects from request to release. Recommend ways to improve business processes. Guide Business Unit Analysts on the standards and definitions.
- 10. Data and Analytics Development Build reports and dashboards directly: gather the requirement, prepare the data from existing governed sources, build the report, check the figures, and release it. This is a secondary duty and does not replace the work above.
