Job summary

Coins.ph in the Philippines is seeking a Backend Engineer to build reliable payment services used by millions. You will design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based microservices across the payment lifecycle, from acquiring to ledger accounting, working with a regional team and AI-assisted tooling.

You will collaborate with product, risk, and finance, work with Mandarin-speaking peers, and contribute to scalable, compliant systems while improving reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of professional backend development experience; fresh graduates with internship or project experience welcome.
• Strong experience with Java (Spring Boot preferred) and willingness to work mainly in Java.
• Familiarity with microservices, RESTful APIs, and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Interest in AI, using AI coding tools or AI APIs, or building AI-powered side projects.
• Mandarin Chinese proficiency (spoken and written) required; business-level English also required.
• Solid CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems concepts.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship backend services: design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based microservices for the payment platform.
• Protect user funds: develop reconciliation jobs, error handling, and monitoring.
• Integrate with banks and local/international payment partners; learn multi-currency and FX flows.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and prototype AI-powered features.
• Improve reliability and performance: troubleshoot production issues and write clean, well-tested code.
• Collaborate with product, risk, finance, and compliance, including Mandarin-speaking teams.
