Job summary

Coins in the Philippines is seeking a Backend Engineer to help build payment systems used by millions. You will design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based microservices supporting the acquiring, clearing, settlement, and ledger accounting workflows.

You will collaborate with regional teams, banks, and payment partners to enable multi-currency and FX flows, ensure reliability and scalability, and apply AI-assisted tooling for faster development.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of professional backend development experience.
• Hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot preferred).
• Familiarity with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and relational databases.
• A strong interest in AI, such as using AI coding tools or AI APIs.
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) and business-level English.
• Solid CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills, ownership, and eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship backend services: Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based microservices that run our payment platform. Contribute to features across the payment lifecycle, including acquiring, clearing, settlement, and ledger accounting.
• Protect user funds: Help build reconciliation jobs, exception-handling flows, and monitoring to keep transactions accurate.
• Integrate with partners: Work on integrations with banks, local payment methods, card networks, and international payment partners; learn multi-currency and FX flows.
• Use AI in daily work: Employ AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and prototype AI-powered features.
• Improve reliability and performance: Troubleshoot production issues, write clean, well-tested code, and enhance system availability and scalability.
• Collaborate across teams and regions: Coordinate with product, risk, finance, compliance, and Mandarin-speaking teams.
