Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
• Two years of relevant farming or agribusiness experience preferred.
• Good Agricultural Practices certification or training is preferred.
• Experience in organic farming, vermiculture, composting, greenhouse operations, landscaping, or plant retail is an advantage.
• Able to prepare work plans, inventories, monitoring systems, cost comparisons, and concise reports.
• Able and willing to conduct regular hands-on fieldwork.

Job description

I. PURPOSE

The Agriculturist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing productive, sustainable, and financially viable agriculture and horticulture systems for House of Maharlika. The role ensures the effective cultivation and management of crops, ornamental plants, livestock, and related agricultural resources to support the organization's operational, guest experience, and community development objectives.

II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Planning and Technical Management

• Assess the Property's agricultural areas, nursery, ornamental plants, soil, water, livestock, labour, equipment, and other resources.

• Collaborate with Management to develop and implement practical agriculture and horticulture plans.

• Create clear procedures and schedules for planting, propagation, irrigation, fertilization, pest management, harvesting, animal care, and preventive maintenance.

• Recommend what should be grown, propagated, maintained, replaced, harvested, processed, or sold based on suitability, cost, available resources, and demand.

• Apply sustainable and cost-efficient practices appropriate to Silang's climate and operating conditions.

• Coordinate and maintain productive working relationships with Management, team members, farmers, suppliers, government agencies, training institutions, business partners, and other stakeholders to support agricultural, horticultural, livestock, and related operational activities.

B. Farm and Nursery Operations

• Translate approved plans into clear daily, weekly, and monthly instructions for farmers and assigned team members.

• Supervise agricultural, nursery, ornamental plant, livestock, harvesting, and post-harvest activities.

• Conduct regular inspections, identify problems, provide corrective instructions, and monitor completion.

• Ensure crops are harvested at the proper maturity, and products are healthy, correctly identified, presentable, and ready for sale.

• Maintain clean, orderly, safe, and functional production, nursery, livestock, and storage areas.

C. Monitoring and Resource Management

• Maintain accurate records of planting, propagation, survival, harvests, livestock, inventory, material consumption, labour utilization, losses, and saleable products.

• Submit timely operational calendars, reports, findings, and recommendations.

• Monitor seeds, fertilizers, soil inputs, feed, tools, pots, packaging, and other materials.

• Evaluate resource efficiency and address wastage, variances, underutilized areas, or recurring losses.

• Prepare technical specifications, quantity requirements, cost estimates, and supplier evaluations for agricultural, horticultural, livestock, and related operational requirements for Management approval.

D. Product Development, Marketing and Sales

• Develop and recommend plants, propagated materials, soil inputs, harvested goods, and other farm-derived products suitable for sale, subject to Management approval where required.

• Recommend product specifications, quality standards, production volume, packaging, care instructions, pricing inputs, and release schedules based on cost, capacity, seasonality, and customer demand.

• Conduct small, documented product and production trials before recommending significant expansion.

• Maintain updated information on product availability, saleable inventory, quality, production timelines, costs, and expected harvests.

• Coordinate with the sales and marketing team in planning and promoting farm products through social media, online marketplaces, direct selling, events, partnerships, property displays, and other approved channels.

• Provide accurate technical information, product benefits, care instructions, production stories, photos, videos, and farm updates needed for marketing content and customer communication.

• Coordinate the timely preparation, harvesting, grading, packaging, and turnover of products for orders, promotions, events, and deliveries.

• Gather and assess customer feedback, sales results, competitor activity, and market trends to improve existing products and identify new opportunities.

• Provide technical support for plant orders, landscaping-related requirements, workshops, demonstrations, and other approved initiatives.

E. Research and Team Development

• Keep updated on applicable agriculture, horticulture, nursery, livestock, and sustainability practices.

• Coordinate, as approved, with government agencies, suppliers, associations, universities, and research or training institutions.

• Identify relevant training, technical assistance, certifications, grants, and partnership opportunities.

• Conduct practical training and verify that farmers and team members correctly apply approved procedures.

• Perform other related duties reasonably assigned according to operational requirements.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Minimum Education

• Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship, Agricultural Management, Horticulture, Crop Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, or related fields.

B. Minimum Experience/Training

• Preferably at least two years of relevant experience in farming, nursery management, horticulture, livestock, or agribusiness.

• Knowledge of crop production, ornamental plants, propagation, soil management, pest and disease control, harvesting, and animal care.

• Good Agricultural Practices certification or training is preferred.

• Experience in organic production, vermiculture, composting, greenhouse operations, landscaping, or plant retail is an advantage.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and comparable digital tools.

• Able to prepare work plans, inventories, monitoring systems, cost comparisons, and concise reports.

• Able and willing to conduct regular hands-on fieldwork.

• Preferably NCII Organic Farming TESDA Certification

C. Competency

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

• Primarily based on-site in Silang, Cavite.

• Regular fieldwork and exposure to outdoor conditions, soil, plants, animals, agricultural materials, and uneven terrain.

• Requires regular walking, standing, bending, climbing, and occasional lifting and handling of agricultural tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.

• Must comply with applicable occupational health and safety, biosecurity, sanitation, and environmental requirements while performing assigned duties.

• Must be flexible with work schedules and rotation, which may vary according to weather, production cycles, livestock needs, events, deliveries, and emergencies.

• May be required to work overtime.

• May be assigned to assist in other areas as necessary.
