The company is currently seeking an Interior Designer reporting to the President and based in E&S Ring’s offices in West Los Angeles.

Role Scope:

This is a full-time position at a third-generation family-owned, successful, and profitable middle market company specializing in the California multifamily apartment space with assets valued at north of AUD $5 bn.

The Interior Designer will be a hands-on design professional who personally drives the visual and experiential identity of their luxury multi-housing communities. This role requires someone who will roll up their sleeves and be directly involved in all aspects of design execution - from concept development through final installation. You'll be working autonomously as the sole design professional, personally handling everything from detailed material selection to on-site project management.

This individual will work directly in design software (CAD/Revit), source materials, manage vendor relationships, and be present on-site to ensure quality execution across the 21-property portfolio. We're looking for someone who thrives on being personally involved in every detail - from selecting hallway carpet and light fixtures for existing properties to leading the complete interior design vision for major new construction projects, including the flagship development.

The successful candidate will have the hunger and energy to be deeply invested in the diverse portfolio, spending time touring properties, being on-site during installations, and personally ensuring that every design element reflects their brand's signature style and quality. You'll handle projects ranging from individual unit renovations to full-scale new building interior design, maintaining consistent vision and execution standards across all scales of work. This is not a role for someone looking to manage a large team - we need someone who sees this as their opportunity to be the creative force behind the design vision while being willing to handle the hands-on execution.

Key Accountabilities

Personally develop and execute interior design concepts for residential and commercial properties across a 21-property portfolio - from micro-level details to macro-level major renovation projects
Scale flexibility - seamlessly transition from selecting finishes for individual units to designing the complete interior vision for flagship developments and new buildings
Directly work in design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit) to create detailed plans, layouts, and renderings
Hands-on material selection and sourcing - personally visiting showrooms, selecting finishes, furniture, and decor while managing budget constraints
On-site project management - being present during installations, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring quality execution
Create design plans for unit renovations, model apartments, common areas, and leasing offices to attract and retain residents
Personal vendor and contractor management - building relationships, overseeing timelines, and ensuring delivery standards
Regular property walk-throughs to assess needs, provide improvement recommendations, and maintain design standards
Work collaboratively with property managers and stakeholders while maintaining design autonomy
Understand property history and character to create authentic, compelling interior environments that maximize ROI
Ensure all design projects comply with safety regulations, accessibility standards (ADA), and building codes
Stay current on industry trends and innovations while personally implementing new ideas across the portfolio

Required Skills, Qualifications and Motivations

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
5-15 years of hands-on design experience - we're seeking someone currently working as a designer who wants to step into a leadership role while maintaining hands-on involvement
Strong technical proficiency in AutoCAD
Proven experience with material sourcing, vendor management, and on-site project coordination
Experience in luxury residential, boutique hospitality, or high-end commercial design preferred
Self-motivated individual who thrives working independently and takes ownership of outcomes
Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
Willingness to be on-site regularly - this role requires physical presence at properties throughout the portfolio
Excellent communication skills for working with contractors, vendors, and internal teams
Knowledge of building codes, ADA compliance, and multi-unit residential regulations
Entrepreneurial mindset - someone who sees this as an opportunity to build and shape a design program from the ground up
Geographic flexibility for travel to properties throughout California
