Job summary

Khatib & Alami International is seeking a Senior Planning/Scheduling Engineer for a Smart City development. The role involves monitoring, reviewing and reporting the Developer’s/Contractor’s project programme, progress, resources, critical activities, delays and recovery measures to keep the project on track.

You will work with project managers, coordinating with commercial, engineering and construction teams, while ensuring adherence to international standards and timely updates.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of experience in Building and Infrastructure work.
• Minimum 15 years of planning/scheduling experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Smart City, infrastructure, large-scale development, or technology-enabled infrastructure projects.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the Middle East/GCC region.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, review and report project programme, progress, resources, critical activities, delays and recovery measures.
• Support project managers with client relations and handling clarifications on technical and contractual issues.
• Coordinate programme information with commercial, engineering and construction teams.
• Prepare schedule narratives and management reports.
• Maintain records of programme revisions, progress updates and delay events.

Job description

The Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, reviewing and reporting the Developer’s/Contractor’s project programme, progress, resources, critical activities, delays and recovery measures for the Smart City development.

• Ensure responsibilities are fulfilled with a high quality and in a cost-effective manner

Key Responsibilities (Customer Focus)

• Support Project Managers with managing client relations and expectations, as needed
• Support Project Managers with responding to client clarifications on technical and contractual issues, as needed
• Support Project Managers with organizing inspections by third parties, as needed

Key Responsibilities (Internal Business Process)

• Review and monitor the Contractor’s baseline programme and updates.
• Monitor actual progress against planned progress and identify programme variances.
• Maintain and analyze project schedules using Primavera P6.
• Review critical path, near-critical activities and programme logic.
• Monitor design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning activities.
• Identify delays, constraints, interface issues and potential impacts on project completion.
• Review Contractor’s recovery programmes and mitigation measures.
• Prepare progress reports, dashboards, S-curves, progress measurement and performance indicators.
• Monitor key milestones and contractual completion dates.
• Review look-ahead programmes and weekly/monthly progress updates.
• Analyze delay events and their impact on the critical path.
• Assist in reviewing Extension of Time submissions, Time Impact Analyses, delay notices and programme updates.
• Monitor resources, productivity and planned versus actual performance.
• Coordinate programme information with commercial, engineering and construction teams.
• Prepare schedule narratives and management reports.
• Maintain effective records of programme revisions, progress updates and delay events.

• Attend periodic training to further develop relevant skills

Qualification, Technical Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent discipline.
• PMP/ Prince2 practitioner Certification is preferred.
• Chartered Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred
• Knowledge of construction supervision services
• Understanding of international engineering standards and codes
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Good knowledge of scheduling and planning software (e.g. Primavera)
• Proficiency in spoken and written Arabic and English
