Job summary

Khatib & Alami International is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to supervise and coordinate HVAC and related systems within a Smart City development in Muscat. The role requires leadership, rigorous supervision, and coordination with design teams to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and codes.

Ideal candidates will have a Chartered engineering credential or equivalent and at least 15 years in construction supervision, with Middle East GCC exposure preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers with client relations and expectations.
• Assist in responding to technical and contractual clarifications from clients.
• Organize inspections by third parties as needed.
• Supervise HVAC, ventilation, mechanical utilities and related systems.
• Review mechanical shop drawings, submittals, calculations, and submissions.
• Monitor installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical and civil works.
• Review equipment installation and alignment and witness testing activities.

Job description

The Engineer will be responsible for the technical supervision, monitoring, inspection, coordination, and quality control of the Developer/Contractor’s construction activities within the Smart City development. The role involves ensuring that all works are executed in accordance with the approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes and standards, approved method statements, inspection and test plans, project programme, HSE requirements, and the Employer’s/Consultant’s requirements.

• Ensure responsibilities are fulfilled with a high quality and in a cost-effective manner

Key Responsibilities (Customer Focus)

• Support Project Managers with managing client relations and expectations, as needed
• Support Project Managers with responding to client clarifications on technical and contractual issues, as needed
• Support Project Managers with organizing inspections by third parties, as needed
• Ensure client satisfaction with construction supervision services

Key Responsibilities (Internal Business Process)

• Supervise HVAC, ventilation, mechanical utilities and associated systems.
• Review mechanical shop drawings, material submittals, calculations and technical submissions.
• Monitor installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Supervise chilled water, domestic water, drainage and other mechanical utility systems, as applicable.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical and civil works.
• Monitor installation of pumps, tanks, mechanical equipment and associated pipework.
• Review equipment installation and alignment.
• Witness pressure testing, flushing, balancing and commissioning activities.
• Monitor mechanical plant rooms and utility facilities.
• Review O&M manuals, testing and commissioning records and as-built drawings.
• Ensure compliance with applicable international standards, project specifications and authority requirements.
• Identify technical issues and coordinate their resolution with the Contractor and design team.

Qualification, Technical Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Chartered Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred
• Knowledge of construction supervision services

• Good interpersonal and leadership skills
• Good planning and organization skills
• Strong attention to details
• Proficiency in spoken and written Arabic and English

Overall Experience Required to Execute this Role

• Minimum 15 years of experience in a construction / construction supervision function

Specific Experience Required to Execute this Role

• Minimum 15 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Smart City, infrastructure, large-scale development, or technology-enabled infrastructure projects.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the Middle East/GCC region is mandatory.
