Job summary

Khatib & Alami International in Muscat seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead technical supervision, inspection and quality control of construction activities for the Smart City project. You will ensure work complies with drawings, specs, codes, method statements and ITPs.

The role requires 15+ years in roads/highways, strong leadership, and fluency in Arabic and English. Chartered PE preferred. You will coordinate with authorities, monitor testing, and support client and project managers.

Responsibilities

• Supervise construction of roads, highways, and related infrastructure.
• Review road alignment, profiles, grading and setting-out information.
• Inspect earthworks, excavation, filling, compaction and formation preparation.
• Supervise subgrade, sub-base, road base and asphalt works.
• Monitor kerbs, footpaths, paving, road markings, signage and related works.
• Review road shop drawings, method statements and material submissions.
• Monitor road drainage, culverts, stormwater networks and structures.
• Coordinate roadworks with utilities and other infrastructure.
• Witness material testing and density tests.
• Monitor compliance with pavement specifications and quality requirements.
• Coordinate road interfaces with existing roads and developments.
• Monitor traffic management and temporary access arrangements.
• Coordinate with authorities for road approvals and inspections.
• Review road as-built drawings and handover documentation.
• Attend periodic training to develop relevant skills

Job description

The Engineer will be responsible for the technical supervision, monitoring, inspection, coordination, and quality control of the Developer/Contractor’s construction activities within the Smart City development. The role involves ensuring that all works are executed in accordance with the approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes and standards, approved method statements, inspection and test plans, project programme, HSE requirements, and the Employer’s/Consultant’s requirements.

• Ensure responsibilities are fulfilled with a high quality and in a cost-effective manner

Key Responsibilities (Customer Focus)

• Support Project Managers with managing client relations and expectations, as needed
• Support Project Managers with responding to client clarifications on technical and contractual issues, as needed
• Support Project Managers with organizing inspections by third parties, as needed
• Ensure client satisfaction with construction supervision services

Key Responsibilities (Internal Business Process)

• Supervise construction of roads, highways, access roads, junctions, roundabouts and associated infrastructure.

• Minimum 15 years of relevant Roads & Highways experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Smart City, infrastructure, large-scale development, or technology-enabled infrastructure projects.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the Middle East/GCC region is mandatory.
