Job summary

Al Jood Natural Resources in Muscat, Oman, is seeking an experienced Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting specialist to diagnose and repair heavy mining/quarry machinery, including excavators, dozers, and trucks. You will lead a workshop team, plan daily allocations, maintain spare parts inventory, and ensure safety and documentation compliance.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and structural faults on heavy machinery.
• Oversee engine overhauls and assess performance/fuel efficiency.
• Lead gearbox, transmission, and final drive repairs and rebuilds.
• Oversee undercarriage inspection and wear analysis.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic systems and control circuits.
• Coordinate with auto-electricians on electrical faults.
• Supervise and mentor a workshop team and allocate daily tasks.

Job description

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, and structural faults on excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, dump trucks, drill rigs, graders, and other mining/quarry equipment
• Carry out and supervise engine overhauls (major and top-end), including diagnosis of performance and fuel efficiency issues
• Lead gearbox, transmission, torque converter, and final drive repairs and rebuilds
• Oversee undercarriage inspection, wear analysis, and repair/replacement (track chains, rollers, idlers, sprockets) for tracked machinery
• Troubleshoot hydraulic systems pumps, cylinders, valves, and control circuits
• Coordinate with auto-electricians on electrical, starting, charging, and sensor/ECU-related faults

Team & Workshop Management

• Supervise and mentor a team of mechanics, auto-electricians, welders/fabricators, and helpers
• Plan daily job allocation, manpower deployment, and shift coverage for the workshop
• Maintain in-house workshop tools, lifting equipment, diagnostic tools, and consumables/spares inventory
• Ensure safety protocols, PPE compliance, and safe working practices are followed at all times during repairs

Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare and close job cards for every repair, service, and breakdown
• Maintain accurate equipment history, service schedules, and preventive maintenance (PM) calendars
• Update maintenance management systems / ERP with job status, spares consumption, and downtime data
• Track and report equipment availability, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), and maintenance costs
• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly maintenance reports and downtime analysis for senior management
• Recommend spare parts planning and coordinate procurement with the stores/purchase department

Planning & Continuous Improvement

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned breakdowns
• Liaise with OEM dealers/service engineers for warranty claims, technical bulletins, and major repairs
• Identify recurring failure patterns and implement corrective actions
• Support budgeting for maintenance costs, spares, and consumables
