Superior Personnel Ltd is seeking an experienced Class 5 Yardman / Shunt Driver for a fast-paced role moving high-value structural steel between our manufacturing space and the yard in New Zealand. The role blends precise heavy-vehicle shunting with hands-on yard duties and close collaboration with crane operators.

You will hold a current NZ Class 5 (and Class 5L) licence, have proven steel handling experience, excellent reversing skills, and a reliable, on-time attitude.

Class 5 Yardman / Shunt Driver (Structural Steel)

Are you an experienced, highly reliable Class 5 (or 5L) Driver looking for a fast-paced role that keeps you active? We are seeking a professional operator for a dedicated shunting and yardman position, safely moving high-value structural steel components from our manufacturing space to the yard. This is a dynamic role combining precision driving with hands-on yard duties.

What You Will Do:

• Precision Shunting: Safely operate Class 5 heavy combination vehicles to shunt and maneuver heavy steel loads across the site.
• Load Security & Chaining: Take full responsibility for strapping down and securing massive steel structures using chains and NZTA compliant restraints.
• Hands-on Yard Work: When you aren't shunting, you'll actively assist the manufacturing and yard teams with loading, unloading, and general labour - meaning you will be on your feet for parts of the shift.
• Site Coordination: Collaborate directly with yard personnel and crane operators for seamless, safe loading transitions.
• Compliance & Safety: Complete daily pre-start checks, maintain accurate logbooks, and strictly champion site health and safety protocols.

What You Bring:

• Licensing: A current, clean NZ Class 5 Driver's Licence (Class 5L applicants welcome).
• Steel Experience: Proven experience carting or handling heavy structural steel, construction materials, or engineering loads is highly preferred.
• Technical Skill: Exceptional reversing skills and high confidence maneuvering heavy vehicles in tight, busy yard spaces.
• Physical Fitness: Excellent physical capability to handle the demands of chaining down heavy steel and managing yard labour.
• Reliability: A punctual, proactive attitude with a professional on-site presence and the ability to work consistent hours.

Important Application Criteria:

• Visa Status: You must currently hold NZ Residency/Citizenship or have at least 2+ years remaining on a valid NZ work visa.
• Experience Match: Heavy transport and load-securing experience are strictly required. Please note: Food delivery or courier backgrounds do not meet the heavy transport criteria for this role.
• Location: Candidates must already reside in New Zealand. Overseas applicants will not be considered.
