Job summary

Bupa Group in Whangārei seeks a Wellbeing Support Assistant to help create a comfortable, clean, and supportive home for residents in our retirement village. You will perform weekly apartment cleaning, tidy communal areas, assist with daily living tasks, laundry, and meal deliveries, while ensuring safety and dignity for residents.

Ideal candidates have aged care, disability support, or hospitality experience, a First Aid certificate, and reliable transport.

Qualifications

  • Experience in aged care, disability support, or community services.
  • 2+ years in a customer service or support role such as hospitality, housekeeping, or home-based care.
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to provide high-quality household services that help residents live safely and comfortably.
  • Respect residents' privacy and communicate respectfully.
  • Reliable transport or travel arrangements.
  • Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective, efficient weekly cleaning of residents' apartments to a high standard.
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks for community areas as scheduled.
  • Provide daily bed making and weekly bed changing services.
  • Assist with dressing, personal hygiene supervision, and meal deliveries.
  • Report faults and manage supplies to avoid wastage.
  • Assist with collecting and returning residents' laundry.
  • Support with medication reminders and accessing prescriptions.

As part of our Household team, a Wellbeing Support Assistant, ensures a comfortable, clean, and healthy environment by providing residents with general housekeeping services, assistance with daily living and lifestyle tasks and keeping communal areas clean and well presented.

The purpose of this job

Located in Tikipunga, Whangārei, Bupa Tōtara Gardens Retirement Village is a modern, purpose-built contemporary facility with a scenic outlook and café located next door. The Totara Gardens care home is also located on site and provides a Rest Home, Hospital, Dementia Care, and Care Suites.

As a Wellbeing Support Assistant, you’ll work alongside a supportive team to:

  • Provide effective, efficient, and hygienic weekly cleaning of each resident’s apartment to a high standard
  • Complete all daily cleaning tasks for community areas as scheduled
  • Provide daily bed making service to residents and weekly bed changing services
  • Ensure care is taken with collecting and returning residents' laundry in a timely manner
  • Provide reminders and ensure medications are taken, and support with filling prescriptions
  • Assist with dressing and undressing, personal hygiene supervision, and meal deliveries
  • Provide any other general services our residents subscribe to, such as companion time
  • Report to the manager any faults, issues, or when supplies need replacement in residents’ homes and community areas
  • Manage supplies economically and avoid wastage
  • Adhere to Health & Safety policies, procedures, and safe chemical use and storage
  • Treat residents with respect and dignity
What you’ll need to make it possible
  • Previous experience in an aged care environment, disability support, or community services (desirable)
  • Ideal work experience of 2+ years in a customer service or support role such as hospitality, housekeeping, or home-based care
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Take pride in providing high-quality household services that help residents live comfortably and safely
  • Acknowledge and accept each village resident as an individual and actively encourage residents to be independent
  • Always respect the confidentiality and privacy of village residents and actively communicate and listen respectfully to residents
  • Show an ability to work well individually and with a team
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, care, and passion for making a difference in our residents’ lives
  • Reliable transport or travel arrangements
  • Hold legal entitlement to work in New Zealand
