Job summary

Barnhouse Consulting Limited is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day freight and transport operations in Oamaru. The role is full-time with guaranteed 40 hours per week and offers hourly remuneration between $40 and $50 based on experience.

Qualifications

• At least three years of industry experience.
• Clean NZ drivers licence.
• Knowledge of commercial transport and freight operations.

• Monitor vehicle condition, fuel consumption and operating performance.
• Review fleet utilisation and identify efficiency improvements.
• Maintain transport, driver and fleet records.
• Prepare operational reports on delivery performance, fleet utilisation, maintenance, incidents and costs.
• Recommend practical improvements to transport operations.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Oamaru with guaranteed 40 hours per week, with remuneration between $40 to $50 per hour based on your experience.

You will be responsible for overseeing drivers and vehicles, managing transport schedules, overseeing fleet maintenance and compliance, monitoring operational performance, and ensuring freight is delivered safely and efficiently.

About the Role

As Operations Manager, you will oversee the effective operation of our transport function and provide day-to-day operational direction to drivers and other transport staff.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing transport schedules and allocating vehicles and drivers according to operational requirements.
• Monitoring transport activities and responding to delays, breakdowns and changing customer requirements.
• Overseeing the utilisation and availability of the company’s vehicle fleet.
• Coordinating vehicle servicing, maintenance, repairs and inspections.
• Monitoring vehicle condition, fuel consumption and operating performance.
• Reviewing fleet utilisation and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Maintaining accurate transport, driver and fleet records.
• Preparing operational reports covering delivery performance, fleet utilisation, maintenance, incidents and costs.
• Recommending practical improvements to transport operations.

About You

• A relevant Diploma or higher qualification preferred but not essential
• At least three years of industry experience
• Clean NZ drivers Licence
• Good practical knowledge of commercial transport and freight operations.
• Strong planning, scheduling and organisational skills.
• Experience coordinating vehicles, drivers and operational requirements.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to monitor operational costs, performance and fleet efficiency.
