Job summary

OceanaGold Waihi is offering an on-site Underground Geology internship for geology or earth sciences students. The role runs mid-November to mid-February, 50 hours per week, 7:00 am–5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, at one of New Zealand’s largest gold mines.

You will gain practical experience on diverse projects, support underground geologists with face sampling, LIDAR scanning, ore drivemarkup and data validation; present learnings to Site Management at internship end, with mentorship from senior

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards a BSc in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• 2nd last or final year of study, with strong academic performance.
• NZ working rights and valid NZ learner/driver licence as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Gain practical experience on diverse projects assigned by managers and team members.
• Work with other interns and participate in group activities to learn mining processes.
• Present experiences and key learnings to Site Management at internship conclusion.
• Provide support to underground geologists with face sampling, LIDAR scanning, ore drivemarkup, oredrive and waste mapping.
• Handle data validation and sampling dispatching to Acquire databases.
