OceanaGold Waihi is offering an on-site Underground Geology internship for geology or earth sciences students. The role runs mid-November to mid-February, 50 hours per week, 7:00 am–5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, at one of New Zealand’s largest gold mines.

You will gain practical experience on diverse projects, support underground geologists with face sampling, LIDAR scanning, ore drivemarkup and data validation; present learnings to Site Management at internship end, with mentorship from senior

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards a BSc in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• 2nd last or final year of study, with strong academic performance.
• NZ working rights and valid NZ learner/driver licence as applicable.

• Work with other interns and participate in group activities to learn mining processes.
• Present experiences and key learnings to Site Management at internship conclusion.

Job Description

Are you a talented and ambitious student studying towards aBachelor of Science (BSc),with a major in Geology or Earth Sciencesand looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Underground Geology team at OceanaGold working at our Waihi operation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented Underground Geology team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday (50hrs per week). Enjoy your weekends exploring the stunning Coromandel!

What will you be doing?

• Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
• Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

• Provide support to underground geologists with face sampling, LIDAR scanning, ore drivemarkup, oredrive and waste mapping.
• Sampling dispatching and importing to Acquire databases.
• Data validation.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Provide coverage over the summer period.
• Ensure core is logged over summerfor data flow into LOMP 2028 models.
• Help implement and complete project work.
