NorthTec, the Tai Tokerau Wānanga part of NZIST, invites applications for a registered Electrician to join the Engineering team in Whangārei to support delivery to Electrical ITO apprentices and Foundation programmes.

This full-time fixed-term role runs through May 2027, based mainly at Future Trades Campus, with occasional travel to other sites in the region; you will mentor ākonga and deliver practical learning with a focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered Electrician with current NZ practising certificate.
  • Willing to pursue Adult Teaching Qualification.
  • Experience teaching in a similar environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality learning for electrical apprentices.
  • Support programme delivery across Northland sites.
  • Assist with assessments and feedback.

Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a registered Electrician to join the Engineering team at Tai Tokerau Wānanga NorthTec to support delivery to Electrical ITO apprentices and Foundation programmes.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) fixed-term contract commencing immediately and ending in May 2027. This role is primarily based at our Future Trades Campus in Whangārei, however ability/flexibility to travel to other sites within the region may be required to support programme delivery.

As a Tutor, you will provide our ākonga with a high-quality level of learning and be passionate in passing on your knowledge and skills to enable them to succeed in their studies.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Hold a Trade Certificate or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • Be a registered Electrician
  • Have recent domestic electrician experience
  • Hold or be willing to work towards an Adult Teaching Qualification
  • Experience teaching in a similar environment is desirable
  • Be a team player
  • Be well organised with excellent time management skills
  • Basic IT and Computer skills
  • Willingness to greet and acknowledge people in te reo Māori and pronounce Māori words accurately
  • Minimum knowledge of āhuatanga Māori and be active in supporting cultural activities
