New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology trading as NorthTec is seeking a Tutorial Assistant to provide locally accessible, face-to-face learner support for ākonga enrolled in TOPNZ programmes. You will help learners navigate programme requirements, develop study habits, prepare for assessments, and connect with academic and pastoral support.

This is a non-teaching, non-assessing role based at Raumanga Campus in Whangārei.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification at NZQF Level 5 or above in Business, Administration, Management or Project Management, or equivalent experience supporting learners.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support learner engagement.
• Sound judgment and professional boundaries; non-teaching, non-assessing role.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide locally accessible, face-to-face learner support for ākonga on campus.
• Serve as a key local contact for learners and connect them with academic and pastoral support.
• Support learner engagement, persistence and successful completion.
• Non-teaching role with no marking or assessment decisions.

Overview

We are seeking a Tutorial Assistant to provide locally accessible, face-to-face learner support for business ākonga enrolled in programmes delivered through our TOPNZ model. You'll support learner engagement, persistence, and successful completion by helping learners navigate programme requirements, develop study habits, prepare for assessments, and connect with the right academic and pastoral support.

This is a non-teaching role - you won't be delivering content, marking, or making assessment decisions - but you will be a key local point of contact for learners at our Raumanga Campus in Whangārei.

This is a permanent part-time 0.4 FTE (15 hours per week) position, commencing ASAP.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

A relevant tertiary qualification at NZQF Level 5 or above in Business, Administration, Management or Project Management, or equivalent relevant experience supporting learners in a tertiary, iwi, community, or education setting

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and support learner engagement

Sound judgement and professional boundaries, with a clear understanding of the limits of the role (non-teaching, non-assessing)

Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities

Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive practice, including an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an education context
