Job summary

Ara Institute of Canterbury is seeking an experienced electrician to move into a hands-on teaching role at Woolston campus. You will deliver practical and theory-based electrical training aligned with current industry standards to support apprentices toward EWRB registration.

You will join a collaborative, values-led team that invests in professional development and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. A pathway to the Level 5 teaching qualification is available while you work.

Qualifications

  • A qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field, preference given to Level 4 NZ Certificate or Advanced Trade Certificate.
  • Current hands-on experience and knowledge as an electrician.
  • Strong practical experience in the electrical industry, with recent experience in the trade.
  • Good time management skills, ability to plan, organise, coordinate activities, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to participate in assessment and feedback processes.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work with a wide range of people inside and outside the organisation.
  • Passion for the electrical trade and a desire to improve industry practices or support the next generation through education and training.

Responsibilities

In this hands-on teaching role, you’ll deliver practical and theory-based electrical training aligned with current industry standards, supporting apprentices and learners on their pathway to EWRB registration. Don’t have teaching experience? No worries, we offer support to gain your level 5 teaching qualification, free of charge, while you work!
