McKechnie Aluminium in New Plymouth is seeking a motivated Tool Room Assistant to join the Engineering & Tooling Services team. This hands-on role supports tooling maintenance, inventory control, and general Tool Room operations to ensure production tooling is available and safe.

You will operate workshop tools, record tooling movements, maintain housekeeping, and work as part of a practical, dependable team.

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Tool Room Assistant to join our Engineering & Tooling Services team. This role supports the day-to-day operations of the Tool Room, helping to ensure production tooling is available, maintained, and ready for use in a safe and efficient manner.

About the Role

This hands-on role is responsible for supporting tooling maintenance, inventory control, workshop housekeeping and general Tool Room operations.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Assisting with the preparation, maintenance, repair, inspection, and storage of tooling to ensure production requirements are met.

Recording tooling movements and inventory information while monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages or damaged items.

Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and workplace safety within the Tool Room and surrounding work areas.

Safely operating workshop equipment, hand tools and power tools.

About You

You are a practical and dependable team player who enjoys working in a hands-on workshop environment. You are eager to learn new skills, flexible in your approach and willing to support different areas of the business when required.

You will bring:

Basic mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn toolmaking processes.

Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

A positive "can-do" attitude, strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Physical fitness and the ability to safely handle tooling components.
