Placements24 seeks a Telecoms Field Service Engineer to install, maintain and repair equipment at client sites around Queenstown. You will diagnose issues, perform preventative maintenance and deliver hands-on support to keep networks reliable.

The role requires 3–5 years in telecom field service, a relevant degree, and a valid driver’s license. You will work independently, document activities, and liaise with the central team for complex problems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Electrical/Telecommunications.
• 3–5 years of Field Service Engineer experience in telecoms.
• Strong knowledge of RAN, microwave links and fiber optics.
• Proficient with diagnostic tools and relevant software.
• Excellent troubleshooting and ability to work independently.
• Valid driver’s license and capable of site duties.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission and test telecoms hardware/software at customer sites.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on network equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues including hardware/software faults.
• Provide emergency field support to minimize downtime.
• Document all service activities and parts used.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent Telecoms Field Service Engineer to provide essential on-site support and technical expertise across the Queenstown area. This role requires you to install, maintain, and repair a wide range of telecommunications equipment and systems at client locations and network facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of service delivery and customer satisfaction. This is a demanding but rewarding position for a technically skilled individual looking to be a key player in maintaining network infrastructure reliability in the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and test telecommunications hardware and software solutions at customer sites.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on network equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, including hardware failures, software glitches, and network connectivity problems.
• Provide emergency field support and respond to urgent service calls to minimize downtime.
• Document all service activities, including repairs, maintenance performed, and parts used.
• Liaise with the central support team to elevate issues that cannot be resolved on-site.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Field Service Engineer in the telecommunications sector.
• Strong knowledge of radio access networks (RAN), microwave links, and fiber optic systems.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and relevant software applications.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in diverse environments.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be physically capable of performing site duties in and around Queenstown.
