Job summary

IDEA Services is hiring a Support Worker in Whangarei to empower people with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives at home and in the community. You will help with daily living skills, personal care, medication support, and community engagement, while fostering independence and dignity.

The role requires flexibility for rostered shifts, a calm approach to challenging behaviours, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Support Worker is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with a positive attitude and compassion.
• Flexibility to work rostered shifts.
• A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours.
• A Full NZ driver's licence.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.

Responsibilities

• Build independence: help people grow daily living skills, from catching public transport to cooking their own meals.
• Support daily life: assist with personal care routines such as showering, getting dressed, and taking medication.
• Pursue goals and interests: encourage and support people to engage in their interests, hobbies, and personal goals.
• Stay healthy and well: support healthy choices and overall wellbeing in a way that works for each person.
• Support complex behaviours: provide calm, consistent support with behaviour management, ensuring dignity, safety, and respect.
• Create connections: support and strengthen relationships with whānau, colleagues, and the wider community.
